No tech, but unless you had 5 fingers + thumb (6 total) and now you have 4 + thumb, I don't see a problem.o_O
Standard answer: "It looks way worse in person."
I airbrushed and photoshopped it so as not to scare the squeamish.
Ok, so maybe it's not as bad as it felt at the time...

Yeah, I need to add PHH to the list. Should I do that when doing the fuel filter? -Aren't they both pretty much in the same ridiculous spot?

Kinda close but both are easier with starter removed out of the way so you are on the right track.

4" line on top of motor? One of the pcv lines? A crack there could have caused some stumbles. Were the ends intact?

Pics below. The ends were getting a little crusty. I replaced it cause I had extra line from replacing the CC. It still has some flex to it.

Well the old girl is getting her OME 2.5 lift today with heavies all around and new casters.

I explained to the wife how the current suspension "was pretty much shot" and "really needed to be replaced" and since that "had to be done anyway", I might as well put a small lift on it.

Pretty spiffy!

So I thought I would post a couple of updates:
  1. Now that I am even more invested in my FZJ80, both financially and emotionally (via pain, suffering, heartache) it only seemed appropriate that I give it a real name. I've landed on "Loggerhead" as my favorite. Inspired by the Loggerhead Turtle, I concluded that they are both big, green, slow and live a long time, so it feels like an appropriate namesake. (Some may feel that "Loggerhead" also aptly describes it's owner's mental prowess as well)
  2. After reflection on the matter, I decide that the original thread title "Oh so much neglect... (Advice & Mechanic recommendations)" was not an entirely accurate description of my stewardship of Loggerhead. Yes, there has been some neglect along the way (and thus I am in my current predicament) but perhaps a bigger issue has been the fact that I have not kept good records of the work that I have done. I had forgotten about much of the attention I have provided to Loggerhead along the way. In light of this realization I recently changed the title of the thread to [LOGGERHEAD: A Tale of unintended neglect, tragedy, and redemption]. I also figured that rather than have various topics / projects spread across multiple threads, I'd rather just keep posting new updates to the same thread. Therefore, an adjusted title seems appropriate.
  3. Why have I been somewhat neglectful to Loggerhead you may ask? Well simply put, it's a Toyota. The dozens of Toyota's that my family and I have owned over the years have repeatedly reinforced the concept that you can ignore them and they will be just fine. However, Loggerhead is the first vehicle that I have ever owned this long (approx 7 yrs), is over 20 years old, and is still expected to perform strenuous tasks like tow trailers and go off-road. So it's clear to me that a change in mindset and attention level is definitely in order now.
  4. As noted by my other thread Still in Shock, the headgasket went last Sunday, the timing of which was particularly depressing. The engine is currently hydrolocked, however I am quite hopeful that there are no bent rods to address. Nevertheless, I will soon find out...
  5. I will be removing the head this weekend to find out for sure what I'm dealing with. I plan to post some pics and updates along the way.
  6. Assuming there is no catastrophic damage to the block, rods, etc., is there a recommended machine shop near WS to bring the head to? I'm hoping to have it decked, dipped, and completely checked out. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

I had Jackson Auto Worx in WS do some work on my 60, and they used a local machine shop when my head gasket blew. I don’t know the name of the machine shop, but if you give Jackson a call they should be able to give you the name.
