* Tuffy-style center console (not Tuffy, but similar style and padded)
History:
As far as I can tell, I’m the 5th owner. I searched through old Mud threads to try to piece together the truck’s history. This is what I found:
* Owner 1 (in SoCal) – Had extensive work done on the truck at Man-a-Fre, most of it during 2006-2007 and at roughly the 250,000 mile mark. Put about 6,000 miles on it after that and then sold it on Mud in May 2010.
* Owner 2 (in SoCal) – Put about 10,000 miles on it and then sold it on Mud in July 2011.
* Owner 3 (in TN) – Drove the truck cross country from SoCal to TN. Put about 6,000 miles on it and then sold it on eBay in January 2012.
* Owner 4 (in GA) – Drove the truck from TN down to Atlanta. Realized quickly that his wife would prefer something more modern, so he sold it on Mud in February 2012.
* Owner 5 (in AL) – ODO was a little over 272,000 when I picked it up.
First impressions:
This truck is awesome. I drove it over 200 miles home, and it had no problem running 70-75 on the highway. Most things appear to be in good working order; although, I’m not sure yet about the dual battery controller. It has the Painless Wiring system. I looked up the manual online, and according to it the 3-position switch should show green light / no light / red light, but the lights don’t come on regardless of the switch position.
My plans:
While this rig passed relatively quickly through the hands of owners 2, 3, and 4, my focus is on the long-term. I plan to use it for family camping and overland trips, and perhaps as a daily driver.
Potential upgrades:
So much has already been done to this rig that it doesn’t need too much more. The first major item will be sliders from White Knuckle Off Road. I ordered them a few days after getting the truck; hopefully they’ll be here in the next week or so. I’ll post pics when they arrive.
I’m also considering interior upgrades. I’ll probably start by swapping out the console for a Tuffy, installing a CB and possibly a Ham radio. Further down the road…maybe replacing the carpet along with some sound-deadening, installing the WagonGear panels, recovering the seats, etc.
