Before I went to bed last night, I decided to end the day right and count how many 20004 filters I have -- 63 -- worth 100K to 125K of miles on each of my 2 cruisers --

-- I am not a hoarder by nature (lie), and I don't want to hoard cruiser stuff (lie lie) --

I was at a dealer a while back and they said it's super-hard to get 60s parts, even from dealers --

-- my question: how long will dealers have an ample stash of 80s parts, and is it worth building up a mini-stash of stuff while it's still relatively cheap and accessible?

For me, this means getting stuff for both the 12 valve and the 24 valve engine -- but thankfully the front suspension is pretty similar --

THANKS!

Yes you should hoard.
Call Cdan and order two of every part on each LC you own :D
This way you won't have to order parts any more AND you will make Cdan VERY HAPPY !

Years down the road you will get rich selling any left over parts on Egay

Eric-Don't sweat it. CDan has gotten me oddball parts for my '76, and a whole bunch of stufff for my 60. I'm guessing Toyota keeps the supply chain alive for years, especially on a popular vehicle like a Cruiser. I can tell you some things will be in short supply. For instance, I bought the last 2 dash heater pipes for an FJ60, so any future person who needs one, if they want new, has to go through me. The spare is for sale by the way, for $1000. Just kidding. The real issues will surface when CDan retires, or moves on to Porshes.

The stuff Toyota does not have can usually be obtained from Cruiser dismantlers. Bottom line, enjoy your cruisers-you'll wear them out, or wreck them before Toyota runs out of parts. You're kidding about the 63 filters, right? If not, you need a 12 step program!

Super hard to get fj60 parts? That's not true. You can still get parts for early fj40 and sometimes fj25. 80 parts will be available for a very long time.

there is no problem getting 60's parts, I can't think of anything I can't get from the dealer(with in a day or 2). Heck I can even get mechanical parts for my 64 fj45LV(with 135 F), still have brake/clutch masters, alts, tune up stuff, axle stuff, body emblems(most) heater valves, hoses, fuel filters(the cool kinda) oil filters( the replaceible element type) ect ect ect. There are really not much that you still can't get for even 20+ year old Cruisers.

so persoanly I wouldnt start hoarding 80's stuff.............I am not ;)

(I do hoard early 40/45/55 parts that I know are about to die in the system) :D

find a new dealer........there is some dude pimpin OEM parts here somepace ;)

if I would have wainted a min.......I wouldn't have had to type......yeah what Eric said :)

The parts that are going to get harder to find are not usually the things you would hoard - mechanical parts will be available from Mr. T for a while. It's all the trim and whatnot that you won't be able to get (and if you're going to start hoarding AC ducts and window gaskets - you need help).

Just my .02 ...

and if anyone every needs new OEM fj55 mirrors.......well I got the last ones in a box in my van down by the river :)

I can't think of the heater pipes you talkin about.......but I like a chalange ;)

40 windshiled frames are a tougher grab these days than they used to be.

Dude, find some other crap to worry about

On my 60 series I had no problem getting mechanical parts ever (and that's in Canada). My local dealer was telling me that he was notified that some of the trim pieces were going into a last time run/build. Not exactly sure which pieces but I think mud flaps ect....

Quite changing you damm oil so much. If you went a more reasonable 5,000 miles per change, your filters were last you 157,500 for each truck, or go to the 7,500 miles that is fine and have them last 236,250 for each truck.

Eric had help, I got 30+ left, :whoops: I think there are some other 20004 hoarders here :flipoff2:

Yeah...I know there's a bunch of you hoardin' bastids out there.

:flipoff2: to alla youse bastids!

Doesn't really matter to me...I don't bother changing the oil. I just keep adding a new quart every 4k or 5k miles. I figure it gets swapped out just fine that way. There's no problem with that, right? :D

...of course you know I'm just kidding...

hmm -- this is some definite incentive to keep the 0004s around -- maybe i'll inch up to 5,000 miles -- I'm using M1 10W-30 too --
