I tried to jumpstart my 97 LX450 and for some reason it popped the fusible link. Ordered a replacement from @Kyle Toyota OEM and am having issues, it seems the plastic quick connect is slightly different, and will not go back together, checked continuity on the plastic connector leg of the old one and it was fine so I figured I could us that to get me by until I get it sorted out only I can't get it back together as the female spade inside the plastic connector is not aligning with the male spade on the truck/harness side of the connector, I wouldn't think the spade could rotate in the plastic connector and tried to spin it back to no avail...here's a couple pics....Any assistance appreciated?

Here's the new part I got from @Kyle Toyota OEM, fast shipping super easy to deal with and i got two plus shipping cheaper than I could get from the local stealership and quicker too boot!!...excellent customer service!!!

Old New Fusible Link vs New One, notice the difference of the internals

Here's the truck/harness side of the plastic connector for the fusible link, notice how the spade is rotated, i can't get it to turn and line back up, but i know it worked as I took it apart 2 hours ago...

Hey, at least you picked a fitting username :poof:

You just have to admit, it IS a heck of a comical fit, yeah?

Just busting balls buddy, I saw that suspicious white plastic in 1st pic & was going to comment, but clearly faster H8'ers beat me to it.

But that name / that solution --- you lobbed a easy one over the plate, bro :flipoff2:

H8'ER

Maybe that'll be my new license plate...

:hmm:

So the analytical side of me will take a turn, while it may be a fix it's not a solution, the integrity of the connection is compromised, while it may be a non issue to you it's details like this that separate solutions and fixes, i could have cut the factory connector out all together and put a wire nut on it but thats not how I roll, would that be acceptable to you on your truck? I was simply trying to show the difference between Lexus and Toyota parts should someone encounter the same situation... The thing that I have issue with is I had to modify the truck side of the harness but I saved the insert and seal so it can go back to factory specs should I aquire the correct part... I am a noob to 80s so roast away......

Not out to roast, just a little jab - I don't kid with people I dislike in real life.

And really I just saw that white plastic as a protector of the internal clip/cleat, but hey, your 80 runs, all is well in the world, and a few laughs had.

I promise to intentionally post my next doozie here, trust me - I have been electrocuted more than I remember, have drilled holes in my live house water line etc.

I was truly just ribbing you, but the internet doesn't always convey tone. Mea Culpa.

No worries, looking at it closer again I think the internals can go back together correctly, it looks like the white piece in my hand will go back, in talking to the dealer it is the same part # from lexus and toyota.... the insert that goes over the female spade stayed with the male, I spose the seal was holding it...this is why I have so much appreciation for this forum..

Slight off - topic & all but to share one from my personal playbook:

Should you wonder "what if" to hitting your battery with 300 amp on the 24 volt position of your true jump box, I can tell you from my own experience.

--You'll get to stare at a glowing airbag light in the cluster, wondering how your fuse links survived, then get to learn the 'airbag light reset' process via the diagnostic port. And how the sweet fancy Moses nothing else was wrong with anything wire related. God protects both the young & dumb, all I can rationalize.

At least that was my experience & in a rush to charge my black 80 after quickly running the box over from the bulldozer & forgetting to switch back to 12v.

That's just my initial 'awesome guy' story of things battery related I'd done wrong in my 80. Given time, I know there's (sadly) more.

Also, if you were never 'properly' greeted here - "welcome" is quickly followed with a :flipoff2: - in case that was offensive in any way. It's taken as dysfunctional affection & a friendly thing here we don't find so friendly out on the road.

HTH, or at least you gotta laugh at my bonehead 24v move - I still don't get how my fuse links survived.

6:beer::flipoff2::beer:
I've done more than my fair share of stupid :poop:, I thought I blew all my fingernails out with a msd box trying to adjust valves on a 350, told him @tmxmotorsports to bump it over with my elbow on the coil, my elbow/arm/fingers were aching...and we won't even go into the hook story...

I still don't get how my fuse links survived.
Scratching my head with broken marbles...that doesn't make any sense, DC current is baffling at times, but so theoretical at others....

Tightening up my positive lead I dropped the wrench and it hit the stud and nut that holds the fusible link in place and spot welded it. Can't seem to break it free. Link didn't blow so now I just carry a spare link in the truck just in case. Will need to get out the dremel to cautiously cut it free. That's my latest doozie
