Fuel pump issues or problems with electrical?

Same thing happened to my '01 about a week ago. 247,000 miles. Same symptoms as you describe. A week in my driveway without starting. Turned out to be the fuel pump.

Is it possible to NOT have to remove seat by way of cutting a flap in the carpet? Or is it directly under edge of folded up seat? At 227k and some longer roadtrips coming i should probably have a spare on hand.

I suppose you could but then you have a hole in your carpet? Remove seats(the 2 seat is heavy I'll say) , pull back carpet and there is a panel with 2 screws. Good thread on it on MUD make sure to d/c battery first

i was thinking a flap, not a hole. unless its in the middle of the "aisle". my truck will not be a restoration candidate in another 20 years. ill have a look later today. im just glad its not under where the drawers are, i hope.

You have a 2003 model, some of the electrical stuff including fuse box is different than the 2002 model discussed here. Have you tried to trouble shoot it systematically or just throwing new parts at it? The fact that it won't crank now is a good news, that gives you a specific area to look at.

The fact that it's not cranking even when I jumpered the EFI fuse or bypassed the EFI completely led me to the fuse box. I also noticed that one of the ABS relay in the fusebox buzzing when I tried to start. The starter and battery were replaced within 5K miles so I know they are good. The only thing I haven't tested is the fuel pump but i'm afraid that the fuse box problem could disable the fuel pump as well. Another thing I notice is the right rear passenger window is not working from either switches. There's so many electrical issues that could point to the fuse box so that's what I'm leaning toward replacement as it is easy enough for diy depsite the expensive cost.

just read the thread from about a year ago. guy thought it was pump, replaced it, kept having issues. he knowingly had dodgy fusebox. finally replaced it with a good junkyard one and solved it. think he got it for about 100$

Don’t have to drop the tank on 100s. Just pull up the rear seat and pull back carpet. Access hole is in the floorboard!
holy crap that's a relief. :) Since mine went out in the truck, I'm paranoid of it happening in the cruiser since their both about the same age.

How did you figure out which fuse box to order? Is/was there any leaks from windshield?

So its not the fuel pump. I bought a brand new Denso fuel pump and installed it. Same issue of I drove it about 3-4 minutes and it died.

Wiggled the fuses while someone else cranked it the key, nothing, wouldn't start.

Checked Techstream and there's no codes.

Did you have blinking security light when it cranked with no start? I would get fuel pressure before swapping new fuel pump.

Did you check fuel pressure from old pump? What is the new fuel pressure?

Going to check the fuel pressure from pump tomorrow when it's light out

When I put the key into ignition, the blinking red light disappears so I can say it's no an immobilizer issue?

May be. This is not a good indication when the engine cranks and starts. It should start when the security light is not flashing. You need to find out if it is flashing when the engine doesn't start.

Did some more digging on mud, going to have a good check on the crankshaft position wire and see if its been rubbing on the serpentine belt.

Seems like this guy had the same issues and went chasing by throwing parts shotgun style at it. Ended up being a stripped wire.

How did you figure out this is the one you need and not those in the passenger kick panel?

I check the fuse box in the passenger kick panel and everything seems ok. All the fuses were intact but I went ahead and replaced them all without any success. An to be honest, this youtube video convinced me.

check your crank sensor. Mine would run and die after it started warming up. finally after a bunch of times, it threw a code po335. so checked harness all good. lexus would do the same thing, start run a bit then die and not restart for a hr or so. took out crank sensor and checked the ohms and they were weak was getting 800s ohms when it should have been for Cold 1630-2740 ohms, Hot 2065-3225 ohms. At least you can rule it out if it is in spec.

I'm chasing similar issue and despite rigging up the EFI bypass, which helped for a few trips, it won't even crank now. I'm ordering the fuse box and will try to diy. I scanned for code using OBDII reader and it came up clean without any issue which leads me to electrical wiring.
2001 here, same issue just started a couple weeks ago. After taking cover off relay, getting spotting voltage. Steady now with a new fuse, but my mechanic recommended new fuse box. I'm waffling between a bypass "fix" or $600+ on new fuse box. Curious to find out if it works for you.

Here's a little update to my problem and it's not a good one. I replaced the fuse assembly box with a brandnew one and nothing changed. The battery was new and recharged before re-installation. The starter was replaced less than 6K miles ago. The engine is not even cranking over and I'm reluctant to suspect the starter. The starter was bought from the local lexus dealer. Btw, replacing the fuse box was not that bad and it's took about 30 mins. I'm now lost for direction.
