Fuel Pump help needed ASAP

FJ60 won't start. Im not getting fuel to the carb. I replaced the filter and still no go. If I put carb cleaner or starting fluid in the carb it will fire for a second or two.

I replaced the fuel pump a couple of months ago with some off brand pump (yea I know...) I believe that this pump is bad now. Nobody in town has got one. I figure that I might as well hook up an electric until I can get a good mechanical pump. What exactly am I looking for in a elec fuel pump? Napa has got one for carbed motors that puts out like 2-5 PSI or something. I've been searching for part #'s but cannot find anything.

Remove the "out" fuel line at the fuel pump to see if it it shoots gas out while cranking the engine just to be sure. I'm having a similar problem but my pump is working fine. Accelerator pump in the carb is jacked up. Sorry, no help with electric pumps.

Check the window on the carb for gas. It sounds like you've already located the problem though. I've had good luck with mechanical fuel pumps from NAPA.

It is possable that the pump arm is not long enough or damaged. (not being oem)
Or you have a problem at the cam lobe that contacts the pump arm. (long shot)
But you got to know if fuel is being pumped to the carb!

When you replaced the fuel pump, did you put the plastic spacer between the pump and the block? If the spacer is left out, the cam can bend the lever.

Hey Bob, It's Mark from MN!

When I replaced the pump, there was not a spacer on the original pump nor the new pump.

Now that it's not raining hopefully I can get the bugger done.

Sometimes it's hard to see that spacer from on top of the engine. I missed it. I installed a new spacer with my bad pump and am still running with two spacers on the block, just haven't gotten back in there to remove it yet.

It's easier to see the spacer from underneath the block.

I put on one of those electric pumps from Napa on my 60 when I was down in Moab and having fuel delivery issues. Though the problem wasn't with my mechanical pump, the electric was sure the s***--my 60 ran perfect all the way home (~5 hours). I mounted it right in front of the fuel tank and didn't have any more issues. That was without bypassing the mech pump too...

Anyway, that should work fine for ya if indeed the problem is your mech pump.

Did you physically cut into the hard line and splice the pump in there? The way I've got mine mounted is to the inner fender in the engine compartment. It was easier this way for the time being. But looking for a more permanant mounting spot this is where I believe it should be.

What problems were you having?

Yep. I cut the send line and spliced the electric pump right on in there. At the time I thought it was the pump cause I just wasn't getting fuel pumped to the carb. When I got back from the Moab trip I looked into it further and ended up finding a second fuel filter upstream from the OEM fuel filter that I hadn't seen for the entire 3 years I owned the damn thing. It was totally clogged up. Dunno how my dumb arse never saw it before then... Oh well. Anyway, I switched that sucker out with a new one and Voila!--problem solved.
