I have a 1997 80 series that had the #6 cylinder fuel injector fail, any suggestions on where to send the other 5 injectors to be rebuilt.

Mine are currently at Positive Performance Center in Delaware for cleaning. Haven't gotten them back yet so I can't give a complete review. Not sure where you're located but it's an option.

Mr Injector in Idaho. I don't know anyone that rebuilds them. They just clean them, test them and send them back with new rubber bits.

RC Engineering in California is good. I've used them and they're priced at $15/injector plus shipping. They test, clean, and flow-balance them and you get a spec sheet showing how each injector performed pre- and post- cleaning.

How do you know it’s the fuel injector
I replaced the spark plugs and wires miss was still there. No signs of a coolant in the any cylinders. Ran a compression test all cylinders were between 155 and 160. The plugs for cylinders 1-5 showed they have been firing the # 6 plug looks brand new so my thinking is no fuel to the cylinder. I am open to suggestions before I start working on it. Plugs and wires were OEM.

Could also be a dirty terminal on the distributor.
Id pull the spark plug out, leave the lead on, hold it against the block and run the engine. Just confirm the plug is actually firing.

That's really all any of the injector service companies can do. The injectors are 'sealed' units so nothing inside the injector can be addressed.

Companies use terms like 'rebuild, recondition, refurbish' but in actuality all that can be done is:

  • Ohm test the unit. If found to be between 12-14 ohms it should be OK (internally/Electrically) to proceed with.
  • Remove filter screen at top and replace
  • Ultrasonically clean (as many times as necessary)
  • Flow test to establish spray pattern and minimum specs for flow rate
  • Replace pintle caps and Nitrile Rubber seals

Some companies will claim they can'match' flow but this isn't possible using only the injectors you sent them. They can match flow from their own inventory...but NOT adjust yours beyond just cleaning.

All in all.....IF your injectors are dirty it's a good service to have them professionally cleaned. Just choose wisely, compare pricing and reputation and don't fall victim to advertising hype.

Check the connector on the # 6 injector to make sure it's not loose. Proximity to the EGR pipe (IMO), makes # 6 particularly prone to being brittle and breaking.

^^^^
Excellent advice.

I pull the plug and check for spark. If I have spark I will get to the injectors this weekend and ohm them and check for burnt wires. I have ordered from Cdan before and have lost information phone # or business name would be appreciated.

Cdan is retired....so you'll have to find another source. McGeorge Toyota (for OEM parts) has been pretty good for me.

Partsouq another.

Website not working but Chuck is still operating FIS - Fuel Injector Specialists. Just had him do 8 for an LS and about to bring him 6 for the 1FZ .
(303) 456-0789
For the LS it was $20 each including filters and O-rings. He provided 10 pages of before and after data, pressures, flow rates, etc.
I'm local so I dropped them off and then we hung out a bit when I picked them up.
I think price is the same each for Denso / Toyota but not certain.
New today at PartsSouq is $158 each

SoCal option, not sure your location. RC Engineering does ship I believe.

Injector Masters has done a few sets for me with good results.

On my personal truck, I sent them a set from a donor engine and they were unknown condition. They cleaned up and balanced nicely, however they'd leak down when the engine was shut off hot and cause an extended crank. They're going back for another round here soon.

In any case I’d reccomend Injector Masters.

That’s always my interest. Cause the cc’s aren’t far off when folks post their sheets. But not dripping and spray pattern maybe low speed and idle is better?
