I'm looking for the fuel level sender wire from the main tank as it goes to the gauge in the dash so I can tap in the one from the aux fuel tank on a toggle. 1997 FZJ-80 US spec truck. Thanks in advance for any help in locating a relatively convenient place to tap into this.

I'd pick up that signal at ID2 pin 18, it is a yellow w/red stripe wire. ID2 is located behind the drivers side kick panel towards the firwall. It is a 2 row 22 pin connector. The manual shows that there are 3 connectors that are part of that wire harness.

FYI: ID2 pin 5, a red wire, is the low fuel bulb.

This info is from a 96 wiring diagram, I'd imagine it's the same but you might first pull the wire to make sure it affects the fuel level first.

Hi Mike -

Rick's suggestion is the best place to pick up the sender from the main tank, especially if your switch is in the dash. The 97 EWD shows the same wire colors/pin outs as the 96.

The only other place where the harness breaks is in the floor channel, behind the DS rear (2nd row) seat - which might work if your switch was in the center console - but the ID2 plug would be a better choice.

Depending upon the switch you are using to activate the aux pump, and where you have located it, you might want a dimmer-controlled backlight. My switches are on either side of the rear heater control switch, and I use the ash tray illumination circuit for the backlights - only inches away from the switches.

Cheers, R -

Thanks gentlemen, that's exactly the input I needed. I got the factory switch with my tank and I'm using George Scolaro's "mock ECU". I've got a little list going of what to tackle while I've got the dash apart: the infamous "D" light, the cig. lighter fuse, as well as the aux fuel tank stuff. Any other items to address while I'm in there would be welcomed. That's about my least favorite place to work.

If you don't have OEM lockers and plan to add ARB's some day, then put bulbs in the indicator lamps. There's also a lamp for some type of air filter (see Christo's site) that some have used to light up when the winch is being used. You'd need a bulb for that one too.
