I spent a bunch of time finding and setting up an
old glass bowl fuel filter and now Specter tells me
the element is no longer available. What I am
looking for is part 3AA below. The entire fuel
filter (with a metal bowl, not glass) is available,
but not just te filter. Any of you folks out there
have a work around?

I bought a new element from the dealer not too long ago. I am pretty sure they still offer these. Get a hold of CDan.:)

I'll dig thru my parts boxes this weekend but I bought some new OEM elments last year, like $3 each, BUT, for $5 each you can buy the whole filter.........and it comes with a new element

Hey LP, thanks for the response:

I know I can get the whole thing but it seems like
such a waste -- and I wonder how much longer
the whole thing will be available if they've stopped
making the filters.

If you can give the the part numbers on the element
and the whole housing I would appreciate it.

The filter element is 04234-30010. List is ~$7.00.
The filter assembly is 23300-30012. List is ~$9.00

Interestingly, 10 years ago, the entire filter assembly was $11. It's become significantly cheaper, unlike every other Toyota PN.

The OEM filter assbly is metal correct; and NOT glass??? Just wondering.

Glass for early cruisers. Here is the glass assembly and the
later metal bowl. The glass is no longer available.

I think this is one of those times when Toyota updated
the part without changing the part number. You can
still get the OEM part but the part itself has changed.

An obviously knowledgable guy at the SOR counter said
that filters of this type were common on US cars in the
40's and 50's so this filter element might be sourced from
a car from that era. He also said that they tend to leak
(which I believe) and that on some US cars the filters
were located in a position so that if they leak, they cause
engine fires. So, once I get a supply of elements, I am
going to run it, but will watch it carefully. I a may also
run a disposable filter upstream from this one to make
sure my gas stays clean.

Now, a really brave man would go back to the old
cannister style oil filter....

the new OEM ones are metal yes.

I think WIX might have a element.

I run the glass one on my 9/65. It was tricky to get it lined up well enough for it not to leak; i.e., it is going to potentially be an issue each time I change the filter element (good thing I hoarded a few!). On the other hand, it is really nice to be able to see what's going on in terms of what's in there.
