I need help in "rewiring" or refitting tubes to my fuel tank, rear evaporator tank and fue separator for my 1970 FJ40. I don't want it capped, I want it to work as designed. Does anyone have a similar setup as mine? Can someone post pics about how it goes? Haynes, SOR and Toyota OEM manual seem to be of no real help here. :(

The two black hoses go directly to the gas tank. There should be two outlets on the top of the tank pointing towards those hoses. Post a picture of your tank.

Same concept...hope this helps.

Little more... with the evaporator tank. Now, one question, what really happens with this setup? Better mileage, less emissions? Recoups evaporated fuel hence less fuel consumption and less fumes or unburnt gas in the exhaust?

I think the three lines that are together on your back rest are evap lines. The very first one might be a fuel suction or return line.

Toyota plate says produced in 6/70, but the complex emissions system, the rear evaporator tank, the split bench seat 3/2, and the brake booster-friendly firewall with two circuit brake hydraulics seem like a 7/70 or a 71. PO said this model was supposed to be a prototype for CA emissions and somehow made its way to Colorado. But I am sure, this is all oem, stock, no weird cuts, unused holes, etc.

Then again if I had believed the PO I'd be two years in driving an awesome jewel with no rust whatsoever nor any mechanical or body problem to address...

All hoses from the carbon fuel separator in the middle seat are hooked up to the gas tank and to the tube back plate assembly. Now to figure out the rest.

If you remember that little red tank, its now hidden in the rear quarter and its two tubes pop out in the rear passenger wheel well. The get attached to the this tubing setup which divides in three where the gas filler is. Now to realize where each is supposed to go.

The rear evaporator tank hooks onto this end of the above tubing.

If anyone has this setup please post pictures of how this is supposed to hook up, the diagram above for the PVC fuel tank seems to miss some parts.

Sorry to bring this up again, anyone with the early '70s middle seat bench seat setup with fuel separator and rear quarter evaporator tank that can help? Really need your pictures as to how this goes up front by the passenger side of the tank. Thanks in advance.

Pistorman have you tried different ways of attaching this. Why aren't you running high pressure rubber fuel line? Just curious.

I have no engine yet, so the shop wants to finish this part and send over. The hoses shown are the old hoses. New high pressure fuel lines are in (the black ones). We could try setting it up different ways but I'm not sure what we would accomplish by that other than having the system not working. The fuel is going out to the carb through the bolt on line in the other side of the tank. I'm just hoping someone has a picture of how this goes on their car so I can do the same. :)

I'll get some tonight. I have an 8/71 with that same setup.

Any specific angles let me know

Thank you very much!!! Basically all connections of hoses as clear as you can :)

Very important, area in the rear of the passenger door. All pictures help.

Thanks!
