Good Afternoon All!

I am nearing the end of my FJ40 build and need some help on the fuel system. I have a 78 with an older chevy 350 motor (I believe the motor is a 78 as well). I rebuilt the entire rear end and decided to mount my new tank under the rear of the FJ. My question is, will the mechanical fuel pump be able to pull the fuel that far or am I going to need to install an electric style pump and bypass the mechanical one?

Any info will help. Thanks in advance!

it should still pull fuel fine, look at all the old chevy's (nova's camaro's etc) all had tanks in the rear with filler spouts behind the license plates and they flowed fine.

Thanks for the reply guys. I plan on hooking it up this weekend and see if I can get it running. It currently has what I believe to be a stock carb, which will be upgraded shortly (any suggestions)? I'll get some pics up as soon as it moves from the garage.

Thanks again

if its the stock carb, is it a 2 barrel or 4 barrel ? if its a 4 barrel and stock its a quadrajet. if it doesnt leak any fuel and runs fine keep it! its about as good as it gets for a carb for off road use. if its a 2 barrel its still probably not bad but the quadrajet is still the better choice if you want to install one. try the search function towards the top of the page and search for quadrajet or carburetor etc and read away.

I too am a quadrajet fan, I say that for v8 apps. I've ran them on pontiacs and chevys both with much success on the street. I can't say much for experience off-road. they are great carbs when adjusted and setup properly. They can be problematic when heat warps the airhorn and body. This is not all that common on small blocks though. Many folks are die hard holley people and can't deal with Q.jets but I think they are great on the street, smaller primarys and big secondarys. If you are running a two barrel you may want to change to a 4 barrel and run a Holley truck avenger carb. Easy to setup and tune, fairly cheap too.
