SOLD SOLD SOLD
Up for sale is ‘Old Reliable…my 1997 Toyota LandCruiser, no lockers, with third row seating , OEM Toyota VIP (Vehicle Intrusion Protection) Security System, Towing package with trans oil cooler, and OEM rear heat! VIN: JT3HJ85J2V0156746. Original MSRP: $50,142. Current mileage: 199,504 mi.
I first purchased this LandCruiser from the *original owner* in 2009, with 129,4xx original miles, and it has remained in my possession ever since. I picked it up in MINT condition, and as it will quickly become apparent, I’ve put a LOT of time & effort (and money) into keeping this truck literally THE NICEST LandCruiser you’ll ever come across, no questions asked. So naturally, no this is NOT a locked truck; this truck has never been off-roaded. If you’re looking for a truck to beat up, this is definitely not the truck for you.
For starters, this is one of THE rarest color combinations you’ll EVER come across:
- The exterior gray is Moonglow Pearl Metallic (1A6), only available in ’95-‘97
- The interior is gray leather, which is very rare and hard to come by
- Together, gray on gray…virtually *impossible* to find, and definitely in this kind of condition
And, it’s a 1997 = late/final production model with all of the model-end refinement and upgrades, without any of the earlier flaws!
Over the past 7+ years, I’ve made so many tasteful mods and upgrades to get the truck to where it is today. So I may not remember every little change and upgrade, cuz there are A LOT.
Interior:
Negatives & Quirks:
I have a HUGE folder with *every single* repair and receipt since Day 1. The truck is in incredible shape, as I am VERY anal and particular about my cars, which hopefully shows not only in the incredibly detailed records, but also in the pics (92 photos can be seen here): 97 Landcruiser by FDNewbie
Asking: $18,000. No trades. Located in Tampa, FL. Title in hand.

Negatives & Quirks:
- Turn signal will disconnect the Cruise Control due to having aftermarket rear taillights. This is a known issue; requires appropriate resistors in the taillights. I haven’t gotten around to dealing with it.
- Windshield has a small rock chip that is NOT visible from the exterior, and was professionally repaired by Safe-Lite (paper & warranty info included).
- Rear windshield defrost works, but is slow.
- This truck DOES NOT HAVE A CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I developed an exhaust leak and the pipe from the header/collector back to the muffler rusted. It was replaced with a straight pipe (instead of the cats) and a Bosal muffler. Sounds is essentially unchanged, although truck now has better pickup. There are NO CELs with this. But if you need to pass emissions, you WILL have to fit a cat in the straight pipe section (aftermarket cats can be had for $300). I’m in FL, so I have no desire to do this
- There is VERY minor rust on the underside (see pics). No problem areas.
- There are NO outstanding issues or problems with the car. EVERY SINGLE FEATURE AND FUNCTION WORKS. NO check engine lights, service engine soon lights, trouble codes, or anything of the like. But like any LandCruiser that has nearly 200K miles on it, it eats some oil, and could use some refreshing. I was about to take the plunge and pull the motor for a complete overhaul + supercharger or possibly a 1-HDT swap, but I’ve since picked up a newer truck with some creature comforts, so I don’t really have a need for this truck anymore…as much as it saddens me to say.
