Front u-joint at the diff grenaded on me. Dropped the ds. Could tell the yoke looked a little banged up. When I got the ujoint out I saw this.
Is it supposed to have that "notch" in there? I would think not.
Is this yoke still beefy enough to be ok if I just slap a new u-joint in there.....or do I need to find a replacement ds or yoke. I'm not a hardcore wheeler. This is primarily a short commute daily driver (6 miles to and 6 miles back).

Whats the verdict?

IMO and I don't have a crystal ball but...

The needle bearings are going to push out on their cap in that area and their grease will escape then they will start to wear and that U-joint will wobble and never be in balance.

I would recommend you find a new or good used yoke.

If you choose to pop in another U-joint and keep on trucking then add a check of that joint to a two week to-do list and check it often and top it off with grease.

My 2¢
