I know it's a little thing. But it's an important detail for me. I'm real happy with this Amazon purchase. The top closes if you want it to, it's not too big, not too small. Construction seems adequate and when open the top takes a hexagonal type shape that snugs into the seat pretty well..

Depends on the vehicle. In my truck it’s behind the center console and at the back cargo area

I use a similar thing in the same spot, except it has a little elastic sphincter at the top. The bottom just rolls up and closes with velcro. When you want to empty it just open the bottom and shake everything out. Agree its a small thing but goes a long ways towards keeping the car clean.

There's no liner in it, but it's not absorbent so I haven't had any issues with it getting gross but if it does I could always just throw it through the wash. I've had it across two vehicles and several years so its been $7 well spent.

It's enclosed in a custom-built platform that allows our dachshund to walk from the back seat to the front seat. The platform normally covers the trash can and the rear HVAC controls, but the little bridge lifts up to allow access to both. I keep a grocery bag inside the trash can because my kids are always putting snotty tissues and gum in there. A liner is a must.

I would love something like that when I sleep in the truck. Would be nice to have a little usable-space extender to fill the gap behind maximum sleep-surface that avoids stuff (like a pillow) falling into the space.

My wife didn’t think she’d like the sphincter but now she swears by it.

We have one in her 4 Runner now too, and added another to the cargo area of the LX for tailgate diaper changes.
