Just provided some information in case someone is interested. I have been running a front receiver for quite a few years and have a receiver winch I have used many times. Usually it’s not for me but someone else in trouble or a downed tree. I have had many rigs with many winches so I understand the concepts of rigid mounting also. I chose to use a receiver mounted winch for many reasons. Cost, weight, keeping the winch stored inside so it stays in good shape, etc. just my choice. One other big reason is that I can slide my winch into someone else’s rig and provide power to it and it won’t stress my rig out. I also have strapped it to a tree and ran cables to it for a better angle or down off the side of a forest service road. So there is lots of reasons to make these choices.
The front receiver on my 470 is a Curt 31367. It does not say it fits the GX but it does. It’s for a FJ or 4Runner and make sure to check that your tow loops on the frame are either bent down or straight. I used the Etrailer site to check dimensions but I ordered it off Amazon.
I have quick connect cables ran to front and rear and my jumper cables have a quick connect on it also. I can use my jumper cable to the winch and to someone else’s battery or from my rig to another battery.

And just so you know. I also have a 2011 GX460 and the front looks identical to my 470 so I will be ordering the same front receiver for it. And I can just swap the winch around.

Here's and odd question for you: do you think it could be installed upside-down? I want a front receiver, but I don't like how low that hangs. It looks like flanges would bolt to the crash bar fine, I wouldn't be able to make use of the tie down fasteners, and I would have to cut a hole on the bumper for the receiver.
If installed upside down does it look like the receiver would come all the way to the grill? Could you give me the measurement from the center of the inside crash bar bolt to the top and bottom of the receiver?

Thanks

That might be useful around the yard and on light recovery, but a setup like that is really only rated for a straight line pull and is in no way comparable to the recovery options you get from a properly mounted winch.

LOL Give it a full force winch pull on a 90 degree angle and tell me how well it holds up! Those are for pushing trailers around in a field, not winching. I've bent the s*** out of receivers using them with winches when actually stuck in mud and it does NOT survive undamaged.
