Are the front and rear differential carriers identical? I have an early{67} FJ40 and was thinking in the future of swapping in a disc break front axle complete and using the front carrier in the rear due to it likely having less wear on it. Appreciate the advice.

yes...they should swap entirely. The only thing to keep with the carrier is the center block for the rear axle.

I've heard stories of shim issues but have yet to have a problem myself.

Doesn't the '67 have the small studs for the axle housing and 3rd member and the later modles have the larger studs?

not sure on that rocrawler, but since he's switching the 67 front into the 67 rear and then installing a newer disc front, it's no big deal.

Or that's how I read it... :)

Unless you need to swap the third members. I've swaped mine so many times that I don't even know which cruiser they came out of.

Also you'll have a 10 spline rear axle and a 30 spline front.
