Truck is a 1990 22re pickup. Front left (driver's side) drive shaft has been making some noise for a while. Pulled it yesterday. It came out in 4 pieces. Boots held some stuff together. FSM is pretty minimal on this. It should be straightforward. New shaft is resisting going past the studs on the axle housing. Am I missing a trick or ??? I am going to try turning the steering to the far right to gain clearance. I have removed the rotor and hub, and the stabalizer bar-end.

I just did the same thing, same year pickup, only thing I removed was the drivers shock lower part and the studs on the axle housing LOL. The studs are gnurled and you have to drive them out, they say to use a brass drift I used a horseshoo stake. I took the hub apart then put the tire back on and removed the jack and stands and the old one came right out and the new went right in no fuss no muss. Probably not the textbook way to do it but it worked. I think your supposed to disconnect the lower ball and swing everything out of the way and put it in from the outside in.
