hey guys i am looking for front fender flares for my fj40. i mave 16 inch wide tire and just got pull over in CT for not having flares up front. i have the bigger flares at back from MAF but i don't think anyone makes flares for the front to cover the tire, or at least i did not find any online.

Note to self: don't move to Corrupticut.

Back in the day there were some generic flexible rubber flares that attached with screws into the lower lip of the fender. They were wrinkly and rusted the lip badly after a few winters..maybe an option 4U. Or narrower tires and rims.

The joys of big brother protecting us from ourselves.

I think you'd be better off finding a metal fabricator to make some stock-like fenders, but wider for bigger tires. Personally, I've never cared for fender flares, and I'd imagine them looking terrible in front, not to mention the body damage they gaurantee.

I believe Crui$er $olution$ (Cruiser Solutions, custom cruisers, restorations, genuine Toyota parts, body tubs, used Land Cruisers for sale) offers some wider-than-stock fenders, you may want to drop them a line to pick up some dimension info.

Those road rules apply to pretty much all of the NE. I have to have the same thing in NJ.

Can you do body work? Cut the fenders down the center and add 1-2". those fenders are pretty uniform. some of the widening may occur under the side aprons depending on how and where you cut. should be too hard to do. The cheap route is rubber fender flare, it comes in a roll. You might find it at a truck stop or parts store. I never liked the stuff. With Historic plates I don't get hassled in MD, many folks here run tires hanging out way too far. Dont get to close or they will pelt you with stones!

If you have extra change in your pocket, Aqualu has some extra-wide aluminium ones for sale.
Are you sitting down for the price ???

4023 Front fenders-stock style-extra wide (pair) $1,012.00 USD

matt.mcinnes on the site has done an eloquent solution involving formed tube and rubber sheet goods.

If the previous is a bit too involved, then I overcame a similar legality here in Hawaii via lawn edging riveted to the bottom lip of the fender. Prior to installing heat the plastic and insert some soft copper tubing. In my case 5/8" was an excellent fit. the assembly can then be formed with a 3/4" tubing bender to suit the fender profile:

semis and ups trucks use the molded rubber flares lawn edging also works and is about 12.00 bucks for 50 ' and looks ok if installed right.it wont damage your truck if you hit something with it.usually when i put my own trucks together i mig weld 1/4 x 3 barstock to the front and rear fenders ,ad some seam sealer and they are there forever plus bounce off trees pretty good .we have the same laws here but if you use antiuqe plates and your tires stick out they will take the plate good luck

it was upstate on route 8. it was a state cop, and i think i got his cruiser more wet because it was raining at the time.

How about tube fenders? It would take a little more work than a bolt on fender flare, but would look much better in my opinion. Call up Metal Tech - Metal Tech Cage Products - and give them some measurements. They could probably bend some up to your specifications in order to cover your tire.

Good luck!
