I definetly would not take the rotors off to be turned, no point in it unless your brakes were pusating or something. I have put in 3 sets of front pads in about 70K miles, never turned the rotors, they all work perfect, stop good, etc...
I just did mine a few nights ago...I also pulled the ABS sensors out of the knuckle to clean them, mine have had metal on them at times, no idea why, but I usually wipe those off. I used the spray can of the brake quieter stuff (permatex) to stop brake squeal and all that, never used anything like that before, but figured I'd give it a shot. The permatex stuff looks like blue paint, smells horrible, you have to let it dry a bit before reassembling, but now all my stuff is blue..
I loosened the bleeder at the caliper and had the excess fluid go out there instead of pushing it back to the MC, which I think is the preferred way, never done that before and kinda a pain, but I guess that's the best way.
