Getting ready to do my front brakes. Looking at the FSM, looks like a easy job with several #6's :D Can anyone confirm this? I've done brake jobs on older vehicles with no problem, just never on the 80.

As always,
thanks for the help.

The most difficult part of a brake job on the 80 is jacking up and removing the wheel. Other than that, there are a couple of springs and pins to pull. Installation is the opposite. No more than a 1/2  job.

unless you are replacing rotors or rebuilding calipers it is very much a  and 6  job.

Pretty much agree w/ these guys - just make sure you take the whole rotor/hub assy to be turned together. Might want to pick up a tool to remove the lock ring (I always position slot at top of shaft...so you can press down and expand) - and have a bolt handy to pull on when re-installing. Definitely  -

I'm somewhat less than a 1/2  mechanic and I replaced the pads on my '94. Did not take rotors off to turn or anything. Just replaced the pads. It's as easy as Scamper says. As these guys will tell you, if I can do it, ANYONE can do it. hehehe :D

You could get in 9 holes, :D but it's a very expensive habit, just like moding out cruisers.

I definetly would not take the rotors off to be turned, no point in it unless your brakes were pusating or something. I have put in 3 sets of front pads in about 70K miles, never turned the rotors, they all work perfect, stop good, etc...

I just did mine a few nights ago...I also pulled the ABS sensors out of the knuckle to clean them, mine have had metal on them at times, no idea why, but I usually wipe those off. I used the spray can of the brake quieter stuff (permatex) to stop brake squeal and all that, never used anything like that before, but figured I'd give it a shot. The permatex stuff looks like blue paint, smells horrible, you have to let it dry a bit before reassembling, but now all my stuff is blue.. :D

I loosened the bleeder at the caliper and had the excess fluid go out there instead of pushing it back to the MC, which I think is the preferred way, never done that before and kinda a pain, but I guess that's the best way.

Good Luck...
