Todays wonderful update on the frame issue:
Talked to Karnage Fabworks out in Duncan and they are able to chop up a 60 frame and put it onto the HJ60, Raddcruisers might have a 61 frame that might fit right in, we'll know more info as the week progresses...

Only problem will be on how ill be getting the cruiser up to duncan... hopefully she can drive without shocks...

Oh you can drive it with out shocks:) kinda like riding a pogo stick..

If I had a 1hd-t with h55 kicking around I would plant it into this truck.

Driving without a frame would worry me more...

(so you'd install an overrated smokey pos engine and a tranny with s*** gearing eh? why not go for the trifecta and put a d35 in the rear while you're at it? :flipoff2: )

dude by the handle of Eknompf had a good frame... Dunno if he still does or not.

Spudds... I installed a 1hdt with h55 and upgraded turbo and aa adapters beef tcase shaft..

Truck plane ripped, third gear with a little moisture on the road would spin the tires, no smoke whats so ever out the tale pipe..

Made a 2f look lame..:p

Good news! I found a frame up in nanimo!
going to get Karnage Fabrication in duncan to weld er' all up together and she'll be good as new!

Don't make me bust out the Jean Luc....

Good news on the frame, that Karnage dude builds some cool stuff.

(and his steel roses are an excellent "get out of doghouse" card should you need one...)

Just about spewed coffe on the key board after that little read... The roses are quite a nice touch to any decor...:meh:

Word has it that the cruiser will be done at Karnage tomorrow, anyone want to donate a ride up to duncan tomorrow at around 4?

Went to go pick up the cruiser and the frame looked fantastic!
Unfortunately, upon merging onto the highway on our way home, we got no more than 300 meters away when her engine sputtered and died

Fortunately, the boys at karnage were still around and came down to help! We worked on the fuel lines, diagnosed the problem as probably there being air in the fuel, so we bled the lines to the best of our current knowledge, Started her up and she wouldn't run without having the ignition cranking

Currently there are a bunch of theories floating around:
1-still air in the fuel, apparently there is a special bleeding procedure that involves a small hand pump that must be pumped to get all the air out
2-when we cranked the motor we cranked it until the 24volt system ran out of juice which led to the EDIC valve acting wonky because we were only trying to start the motor using one battery hooked up to jumper cables
3-water in the diesel, Cam suggested that we check out the water separator for water
4-bad fuel filter, could be bunging up the lines and not getting enough flow to the high pressure pump. Anyone know what kind of aftermarket filter I should look for if Toyota doesn't have one?

The fuel bleeding procedure with the pump

I assume you bled the air out of the lines through the injectors? Also assuming you replaced the filter (lordco sells them) and bled the water fuel separator.

Some suggestions (I fought with this before):
1. pump the little hand pump until no air comes from filter bleeder.
2. Crank over and bleed each injector until there is no air coming out.
3. If its still not running smoothly get a jerrycan of diesel and hook it up to the point closest the lift pump you can and repeat steps 1 and 2.
4. If its still not running properly remove the lift pump and replace with a new one (when old they're horrible for sucking air through them causing a leak)

My problem ended up being a blue shoptowl in the tank. So step 3 is a good way to diagnose if it's any of your lines or tank pickup ect. (also sometimes the tank pickup snaps off i've heard)

I bet the guys at karnage had to mess with the fuel lines when doing the repair at the back . THe fuel lines tend to rot out at the tank where they go in . Right where they were working . I imagine they broke/ cracked an already too rusty line . The engine will not run if there is a hole in this line . You need to pull the tank and replace the sender unit . I am fairly experienced at this . and I have a trailer in chemainus . I have a hoist and tranny jack for doing just that . Give me a call if you require assistance . (604)838-4672
. Radd in duncan might have one of those sending units ? Otherwise grab a small jerry can and a bunji . and stick it under the hood . Then you'll have to detach your rubber fuel line from the steel line on the frame and stick it into the jerry . I would check that area first .

Where the fuel filter is you will see a nipple, also it should be on the one with the arrow pointing out, the primer pump is down on the injection pump, Unsrew. Get a little catch can, use a 10mm wrench crack the nipple and start pumping the pump, this may take awhile if lines are empty, pump till fuel flow constant then close. If after 15 min no fuel I would suspect you have leak in line somewhere, crawl under neath an look for leaks. Also midway under frame is the seperator you can drain that too, I have found line leaks before by Disconnecting fuel line in engine bay and use compressed air to pressurize the line. Like Too Tall said check up at fuel tank hard to see.

I agree with too tall. You only got 300 yards from frame shop before it quit tells me that problem is near frame repair. Fuel lines or gas tank leak.

If anyone wants to come up and help out., giver a call and I'll tell ya when I'm on my way up

Anyone know the part number for the filter at lordco? Probably going to pick one up on the way up

I agree with too tall, have had it happen as well. Don't change the fuel filter, just another thing to piss around with, more unnecessary draw on the batteries, having to prime it, fill it and get it going again. Get it home first then change it.
Good luck!

I was thinking about that tank issue today, saw your truck as I went by , then saw you working on it when I went home...considered stopping but...kinda hungover and had the wife, dogs and clean clothes so didn't...

You can do the "suck" test on the fuel line. If you're getting air you're hooped and will need to fix the tank like they said.

Its possible they disconnected the fuel line and some fuel drained out so there's just a slug of air in there, but pretty good chance Abel is right.

You can run it off a jerry can if need be to get you around.

Good news and bad news!

The good news is that the problem has been found, and we have a diagnosis for it!
It turned out that it actually was the problem with the fuel pickup line sucking in air
Got in touch with TooTall and he is very kind to help out with replacing the fuel pickup line
We rigged up a gas can underneath the hood and managed to get it up to TooTall's compound

The bad news is that these pickup lines are tricky to find... so if anyone knows anyone who has one on the island or in vancouver this would be amazing!
The part number is 77240-60030

hope to see you all on the road soon!
