You should re-up your BCAA before you go :D ... not to be a jerk but I'm serious...

I've used them at least 20 times in the last few years... premium members get 6 tows per year up to 320km per tow. All you have to do is get the truck to pavement/cell coverage.

Maybe he should think about being more prepared to deal with the things that happen out in the world rather than relying on some service you can only reach by cell ? I have never been stuck or stranded in the woods to the point where I couldn't deal with it . Wheeling by yourself is not advised , but being prepared is a good motto for life . Relying on other people will only allow you to get screwed around more when wheeling out in the woods . Get a hi-lift and a winch and learn how to use them . Take a buddy and a tow strap . Occasionally try to take an objective look at the situation you are in and try to imagine getting out by yourself . If that is not possible then maybe next time you'll be a little more hesitant to get into that same situation . Looks like a neat area to go explore . Have fun and good luck .

I'm not advocating exploring alone. Or not being able to get yourself out of trouble. I think that part of owning a landcruiser and a toolbox is knowing how to use both.

I do however think that when driving a 20+ year old vehicle $150 a year is cheap insurance for getting a tow truck. If something does happen, I just get the tow. I don't debate if I have the cash, or if I can limp it home in potentially unsafe conditions I just take the free tow truck and don't cause more damage or hurt anyone else.

Example: last year when I blew my rear pinion, I pulled the pinion in the bush, drove in FWD to the road then called CAA. I was >200km from home and I didn't pay a penny for the tow. What turned into a late night was a lot better then if I'd paid for the tow, or if I'd had to contemplate if I had the money or if I should try to drive home with no rear pinion.:hillbilly:

Pictures of my truck with no pinion for your entertainment

Was it one of you guys that was talking about a massive waterfall on the side of a logging road outside of the kennedy lake/tofino area?

Considering heading up there this weekend, but some friends have been saying that the bridge is out...

Any info would be much appreciated

45 kms up the Kennedy lake road. I'm in Kansas and can't remember the name of the road. It's 1 KM before the tourist info building at the Tofino turnoff. After about 10 kms, it branches right to Kennedy lake, don't go that way. Bear to the left and follow the saltwater inlet.
There is an inlet (saltwater) that the main road follows. In the BC backroad mapbook there is the little binoculars/lookout and it's called 'Virgin Falls'. The falls are just 100yds left of where the road ends ( due to removed bridge ).

Sorry I didn't see your post before the weekend, but I've been flying my ass off here.

Add On

It's called West Road. Left turn at Deer Bay Road. Follow Deer Bay road up to 45+ km markers. When you reach the log across the road, get out. you can hear the falls. If you walk across on the steel foot bridge, go 50m, left turn on the path in to the falls.
I hope you find it, have fun.

Picked up a oil pressure sender for my non working oil gauge from napa yesterday, was about to install it and noticed that the part they gave me was a 12volt part! Anyone know where I can get a 24volt oil pressure sender that's not crazy expensive OEM?

Hmm.. I think i put a 12v sender into my 24v bj70 and all that happened was the gauge just read higher.

Memory is a tad foggy tho so I'd get a second opinion....

Isn't there just a resistor inside you can change or bend a part or something? ... if it reads high?

It is just a resistor, I tried adjusting one that read low once, but nothing happened. Was a real pain in the ass to get open.

On the 70 it actually worked out pretty well. Needle was in a range that didn't make you nervous when you idled...

That gauge is a bit of a joke anyways. Not sure I'd spend a fortune on the correct sender just to get it working.

A warning light hooked up to the low oil switch is just as useful. Or a proper gauge with numbers...

So, Cam was right, It is a oil pressure switch.

it turns out that the oil pressure switch and oil pressure sender go right into the same plug ins, and when my engine was rebulit, they just swapped in a pressure switch to plug the hole!

There are two wires that connect to the oil pressure sender, one is ground the other is positive, the interesting thing was that when we connected a ohmmeter to them, one way we had them in it was reading 12v and the other way it was reading 24v!
The one with the green electrical tape is "positive"

The intersting thing was that when we had both ends plugged in, the EDIC would shut off!

1452160_10153565207395235_258145938_n.jpg

and when only the positive was plugged in, the engine would run, but there would be no reading from the oil pressure gauge on the dashboard

Could it be something to do with the oil pressure sender being 12v?

any help would be much appreciated

Got this info in my manual...

Turns out the EDIC is hooked up to the oil pressure sender/switch

I tried disconnecting and touching the wires together to see if the gauge would move, but no result

flipped the wires around, tried again and didnt get anything out of it either!

Are these even the correct wires? I found this other empty plugin right beside it...

This thread is still alive!

(barely)

After hearing this scary knocking noise from the front end for the last 2 months, I decided to head up to Radd to get a handle on what on earth was causing it.

For some reason I thought it had something to do with the way I installed the lift, but that wasn't the issue!

Turns out that my tie rod links were hooped!

Went down to lordco to pick up some replacement links today to throw in and ran into a bit of a snag (can you spot the problem?)
cwIjSoT.jpg

Turns out it was just the wrong part in the right box, they say that the right one is coming in tomorrow morning, so we have yet to find out

Interesting thing about the right tie rod link, Ill be getting one very similar to the left tie rod link, because they used to make rebuild kits for the right tie rod link's style, but are now very hard to find. So I guess we're just going to roll with what we get!

In the mean time, Im busting out the rattlecan and giving the tie rods a "safer" coat of paint

How the underside currently stands
Oh, and I got a new steering stabilizer mounting bracket from Radd

Yeah those bits are kinda important sometimes...

I believe that rebuild kit is a couple of pennies....so you're right, they are getting hard to find. :grinpimp:

Should pick up a few extra HP's with that bright paint. :p

Nice work. I need to do that same job too... You'll have to get an alignment after I guess?
