Theo ,what kind of money do they want for them in SA? They are much dearer than other fridges with the same compressor here

:hhmm: Think I paid ZAR 11K a few years back, Ross. They are a bit (15%) more than some of the others but well worth it IMHO.

I was a curious as to much they add on when they send them here.
Per litre, they are nearly double the price of the local and imported models sold here.

 Jeepers ! It does depend where you buy and if the place has a special price going etc but the max price difference I have ever seen, was about 30%. At almost double the price I would also be reluctant :meh:

We have a Norcold 60 and a Norcold 45. Both work very well. The 60 is big, but there are 5 of us in the family. The 60 lives in the 80 and the 45 is in the 62. They both are running 24/7. Great for the grocery store so you don't have to rush home.

This is the price list for the NL dealer in Perth.
The NL 50 litre is $1995 and a Waeco 50 litre is about $995-1099 depending on which model.
I can see the exterior benefits of the National Luna but inside they both run the same Danfoss compressor:confused:

National Luna - Dolium Pty Ltd

Im guessing the proprieters are expats from SA. They have other products from there too. Im intersted in their retractable 3.0mx2.1m Eazi awning, any experience with them?

engel seems great to me!

I have an Engel and it has been great- no complaints at all. I like the 12/24V power; I plug into the 24V truck while on the road and into my 12v solar system when camped out. It draws little power and is quiet enough to sleep in the truck while it cycles. It keeps things cold at the lowest setting and will even freeze (!) stuff set higher. Get an Engel from my experience, you'll be happy with it.

4-years of tough use on my Waeco CF-50/51. The fabric cover could have been made more robust but that is the only complaint I have with this fridge. Liked it so much I just bought a Waeco CF-25 to mainly use for frozen goods on our longer trips...

Ross I have owned a Hanniball for 2+ years now and it is great, IMHO. I also bought the sides for it which I had zippered for obvious reasons. What I like most about the Hannibal is the fact that
1. it does not have any ground poles at all and is very quick to erect or take down - much quicker than anything else and is therefore a pleasure to use for prepping meals etc during quick lunch stops. I have too many friends who would never dream of using their awnings during a lunch stop and therefore it eventually ends up being a white elephant(I don't like unused equipment) just because it is a real schlep to erect.
2. it is very sturdy even in bad winds etc - I have seen a few other makes being damaged/ not holding up, in moderate weather
3. it does not rattle at all when folded away- I hate rattling equipment :whoops:

I've got the Engel 45 Quart original metal fridge with the transit bag. As already mentioned the latch is a little hard to get at but the bag does keep the fridge running less. Lid sucks without hinge locks. No other real complaints. Neighbor just got the new ARB unit. Little bigger. The basket is designed with much better organization in mind. Built in thermometer. Not too much larger foot print. I've used the Engel 35 quart unit, too small in my opinion.

Ok you are swaying me:D
Got any pics? Im particuarly interested in how much it sticks out the side and its abilty to get tangled in trees.

I have a WAECO CF 110, 106 liters, BIG and HEAVY, uses a fair amount of power. I am glad I have two yellow tops . Thinking about setting up a smaller third battery and a 10 watt solar panel.

Hi Ross

Had an Easy awn 2m on my old Hi-Lux for many years. It is quite light and the Hi-Lux had leaf springs all round, so lots of bouncing etc, but it worked well and held up well. Can really be put up by one person. Don't lnow the Honnibal part, but the mechanics to have it cantilevered will definetely make it much heavier with possible side-ways loading at the moutnig points when extended.

Will probably end up with Easy awn on my 79, since it tis avaliable here and the Hannibal agents locally was closed on Saturday

Thanks,will take that on board.
I have some sturdy 40x40 mm stainless steel box tube to mount it on so weight is not a worry.

Ever considered a deep cycle battery? They have thick plates designed to dribble out small amounts of power over a longer period and can be recharged a thousand times or more.
My CF80 gets about 2 1/2 days from a 100 amp deep cycle without recharging.
I now have it connected to the engine batteries through an isolater and recharge from the alternator.

A 10 watt solar panel would take all day to make enough power for 1 hour.
You would need at least a 120 watt panel for a CF110,maybe a 60 woulde be ok if you were recharging off the alternaotr also each day.

I have a 55watt panel mounted on my Land Cruiser and it keeps up well on a Norcold-60 or Waeco CF-50. Today along with keeping my frig going all day at the river I also ran the blender for some frozen Margaritas :cheers:for me and my friends all off a stock battery and a 55 watt panel. Never started the Land Cruiser until I left. My battery voltage read 12.28volts when we left.
