Thanks for the compliments.
Wow, some guys have all the fun.....
Nice toys
I've been saving my money and waiting patiently on deals to come along.
Nice! new tools are always fun, Big ones are always better!
Agreed. You can never have too many tools...
nice score charles, glad you got it all worked out. my forklift has been one of the best investments i've ever made.
I'm going to put the forklift to good use. There have been many times when I had to use the cherry picker to unload heavy items from the back of the truck.
Way to go Charles. That's a nice size lathe for sure. How heavy is that baby? Good shape?
The pallet racking and gantry crane I put in the garage where some of the best moves I made.
The lathe is in good shape considering that it is probably close to 80 years old. The previous owner had the lathe for 35 years and took good care of it. It has a 5 HP single phase motor in it. Came with two 12" USA made chucks (3 jaw and 4 jaw). The hole through the spindle is around 1.75" Monarch lathes are known for being very precise, rigid, and well made. I would estimate this lathe to weigh at least 3500 lbs.
good thing jewel knows how to drive a forklift.
i can just see the headlines now:
"asian driver, first time forklift operator....."
bawahahahaha
You're right about that. Moving heavy machinery is an art and not something to take lightly.
Good older used machine tools are widely available cheap - if you have the space and ability to handle. Used forklifts are also fairly available. I've got one of the standup lifts like you see in Lowes/HD for inside use I picked up off ebay for $1500 and dual drive wheel 8K# lift for outside use I bought from a university surplus sale for $800.
I got a great deal on the forklift. $1700 for the forklift and $185 to the tow truck to move it for me.
It is a 4100 # lift capacity with 188" mast. The engine was rebuilt recently and runs perfectly on propane.
The only issue is some minor hydraulic leaks. I can live with using a little cardboard to catch the drops of oil. I was going to rent a forklift, but when I called around, it was going to be at least $300 per day to rent it.
Old equipment can be had for cheap, but you really need to make sure it was not abused. The best deals are in the northeast where many manufacturing factories have closed down. Not too many good machinery deals in the south.
This is small score compared to the stuff you have been buying..... I guess you gotta start somewhere...
