And I've had new motors sitting in my shop for about 5 years. Real PITA to replace all of them...so I've been putting it off in favor of other things I want to do my 80 series. Still would like to shoot 24v to the 12v. motors and see if there is any improvement (new or old).
I seem to recall a thread from a year or 2 ago where a member disassembled his stock motors, cleaned them, re-greased them and then re-assembled everything. They worked like new after that.
I was hoping to replace the brushes in OEM front motors.
Forget the size now but there are cheap brushes that would work if made a bit shorter. However, the wire is kinda soldered or part of the brush and I didn't get any new ones to mess with. My old oem ones would have been brought back to life with new brushes. Something like 5 mil by 5 mil by 10 mil would fit. Something to think about anyway.
Heck, someone with a bunch of them repaired could prolly make a few bucks messing around and making like new motors to sell.
Clean up the comm, new brushes, fresh grease and a clean connector would be like new!
If I had a kid of age that would be there new job.
I still have all the pieces of a motor at home if someone wants it.
Highly recommend the dorman motors. Been about a year since I did my fronts and rears with new runs and dorman motors and they have not skipped a beat. It's not even a thought in my mind that when I use any one of my windows that it may not work or get stuck.
I thought I read somewhere on here a fairly comprehensive thread that details how to get superior window motors from a Corolla to use in our trucks. Is that not easier than the Ford route?
For the fronts, I had to de-pin the Toyota motor harness and move the connector over to the Dorman unit. Other than that, the rears were plug'n'play. Pretty easy job even with the window runs and cleaning.
Reading this thread reminded me of my dad's 99 f150 those windows were so strong they actually caused a crack in the sheet metal above the window. Ford even did a recall for it and fixed it lol. More power isn't always better. Driver side door skin crack, What's the fix??? - Ford F150 Forum
