Ok I live in Canada and finding a 80 series parts truck can be a pain in the @$$ and if you do everyone wants to charge you $100 for a used power window motor that you can buy new for $50 in the states.

So that got me thinking, no one will charge me $100 for a power window motor if its for a 91 corolla will they? hehehe
lucky for us (unless your parting out a truck then your gonna hate me) Toyota was pretty universal with these parts.
So here's what my research indicates, hope none of this is repost but if its new ground it should really go in FAQ

I havent tried any of this and can only vouch for it based on general description and part numbers. I'm replacing my right front motor ASAP tho so I'll let you know what I ended up using and how well it worked.

Curious who's tried some of these suspected/suggested Toyota alternates for our LC windows and how that's worked out....

I don't know if anyone else has fiddled with the info in this older thread, but I'm giving it a whirl. Thanks for the research, Musashi!

I just picked up the following, paid $15 each.
1997-2001 Toyota Camry (Passenger Side Rear Door)
1997-2001 Toyota Camry (Passenger Side Front Door)

Which are supposed to fit the Left Front (Driver's) or Right Rear door.

So far, I know the connectors are not the same (which I can work around) but it also looks like the motor's a mirror image to the driver's door motor. Makes me wish I'd gotten at least one of the other two motors from that Camry - maybe the info's just reversed.

If I can make them work, I'll say this - the rear door motor from that camry still had the waxy yellow factory grease on the 7-tooth gear - obviously had VERY little use.

Good news - it works as advertised, the main problem is that I am incapable of reading!

I said I grabbed motors from the passenger side. Wrong! They actually came from the driver's side. I must have been thinking of myself as a passenger? I blame my over-crowded brain. I'll have to go back and get the ones from the other side.

But since I needed one for the front passenger side of my cruiser anyway (it rolled down but not up without serious help), I gave it a shot...

Had to use some spade connectors because (not surprisingly) the 2-wire electrical connectors from the Camry are totally different than the Cruiser. I'll look into 2-wire connectors, but so far I haven't seen any that crimp or are weather resistant. I may just heat shrink the spade cx and call it good.

Main point is, so far this substitution works and is a valid way to source motors for cheaper than new OEM or even used/ebay OEM. This pic is from the driver's door, which I'll probably take back to trade for one of the passenger side motors. The one I installed in the front passenger side was from the rear of the Camry, the one that had seen very little use. Looks strong - we'll see what cleaning the runs does before I seal the door back up.

Mine seems to be seasonal that they get slow. So you don't burn up another motor lube your window felts with silicon spray. Roll the window down. Use the little pipe deal that sticks in the nozzle. Shove it between the edge of the window and the felt and give it a squirt on both sides. Roll the window halfway up and repeat.
Down south usually do this when it get close to freezing and it lasts the winter. Up north like you are you may need to do it a couple of times

Great job. CDan is doing the same type of investigation currently for OEM door handles for his weird truck.

Remember, RH and LH is like being in the driver's seat of a car or captain's seat of a plane: RH=PS, LH=DS.

Not the other way around as if you were looking at a vehicle straight on from the front.

Thanks man!

Yeah, I wish it were some sensible mix-up like that, but I...
1.) Carefully considered which way to face
2.) Determined that left was the driver's side of my truck
3.) Read 'passenger side motors of Camry needed'
4.) Simply went to the driver's side of the dang Camry
5.) Twice

The good news is that despite my heat-addled brain, thanks to a hammer blow that temporarily restored the driver's side motor, I have two working front windows for the first time since I bought it! :bounce: And hopefully the pass side motors will still be in the junk yard Camry tomorrow.

Side note - the 2001 camry rear passenger motor without cleaned/lubed window runs beats the 1993 Land Cruiser motor by about an inch and a half.

Here's the speed. The regulator's been cleaned/lubed, but not the runs.

Editing to add a pic of the inside of the original motor mechanism. It's a wonder this thing turned at all!

Ha! I wished I would have known about this thread 2 months ago. I replaced my front motors with Dorman units off Amazon for about $40 a piece last month. Just did the rear doors with the same Dorman's last weekend. Also stuck in new window runs and sprayed them silly with dry silicone spray. It would have been nice saving a couple bucks, but at least all windows are working again at any given temp!

Great research. I can confirm that the rear PS motor from a ‘04 Camry works perfect in the front DS of my ‘93

Hoping to get help with a few 80 LC Tech issues:

1) my rear doors will not lock or unlock electronically - but the front doors will...anyone know an easy fix here?
2) My front passenger window just stopped working. Last week it worked from the driver side controls, then that stopped, but it worked from the passenger controls, now that no longer works...any insight?
3) Heater works in the back seat, but not up front...this one has me real last

Brand new to the Landcruiser game!
