Totally right
The MSDS for Quick Roof reads almost identical to Dynamats elsatomeric butyl.
This is from the Quick Roof MSDS
SECTION 5 - HEALTH HAZARD DATA
Primary Route of Entry:
Inhalation, skin
Health Hazards:
No data
Acute
Upper respiratory tract irritation. May cause nausea or dizziness.
Chronic
There are no studies to indicate that asphalt causes cancer in man. This petroleum based product contains a small amount of polyaromatic hydrocarbons which have been shown to cause cancer and respiratory damage in laboratory animals
Elastomeric Buytl MSDS is here MSDS – EnergyGuard Butyl Coating : LEXIS
If I avoided everything that might have harmed a lab rat I would not be able to leave the house.
I deal with chemicals and the associated MSDS info on a daily basis and this sounds like a fairly harmless product. The quick roof has a heath rating of 1 where the elastomeric buytl product is a 2 . Almost no product has a health rating lower than 1 even water vapor rates a 1. Read your cold medication bottle sometime if you want to get frightened.
I am aware of hundreds of people who have installed this in their vehicles without any problems other than some complaints about smell with some brands of sealant. Acoustically it seems to perform about the same as the original Dyanamat but not as good as the Extreme, the majority of the benefit comes from stopping the metal from vibrating and almost anything you attach to the large expanses of unsupported metal is going to work with heavier, thicker material having the advantage over lighter thinner stuff. Dynamat is good stuff I just do not think it is worth the cost and from a heath stand point I see little difference between the two. As far as durability none of my stuff has come loose let alone fallen off in three years since I installed it and I do not think the inside of my door panel is going to be a more hostile environment than the roof of a building, but that may just be me.
I understand some people have alot of money invested in dynamat and they will never be comfortable with the possibility that there may be a much cheeper alternative, heck I feel the same about my metaltech sliders.
That said if you find this product too scary by all means do not use it! Just be aware that some automotive products are also tar based like Fat Mat and most factory spray on stuff.
