Nice

Thanks for the comments Nik, my Dad's doing better, but the bill collectors are still calling. I'd say he is easily 6 digits in the hole. Medicine is a mess.

1981 BJ42 for sale/trade

I am sure there are a few who will not believe I am doing this, as this was my 1st Cruiser, my 1st renovation...my 1st born so to speak.

1981 BJ42, 317,000kms (197K). Frame off renovated in the late 90's. Build date tag is Nov 1980, so no RI needed after Nov 2005. Painted with RM Urthane, Freeborn 309. I recovered the remaining paint from the painters(checked and still active) in Sept this year. I have owned this truck since 1998, when it had 230,000kms (143K).

Frame acid dipped, epoxy primed, Endura painted.
Firewall acid dipped, zinc phospated
Hood/Fender side plates acid dipped, zinc phospated
New Toyota fenders
Aqualu tub/bib
Gozzard windshield frame/new glass/rubber
Aqualu 1/2 doors, custom soft-top for the doors
Rear fold down storage hatch
6" deep rear floor storage
Tub interior Rhinolined
Rear 1/2 wiring harness completely rewired
Steering components completely rebuilt in 1999 (relay, tie, drag, and center arm)
New injectors at 270,000kms
New brushes for Alt a few years back.
Front axle rebuilt in 1998
T-case rebuilt in 1998 (run tranny to t-case tube as well)
Front main seal replaced 1998
New rotors, shoes, pads, many new lines when renovated in 1999.
259,000kms when aircared and finally on the road May 2000 (went to Moab)
I have all major receipts from the renovation
Stock 4:11. Open rear, LSD front.
5 new 33x9.5 BFG's Sept 2005, on older powder coated stock wheels.
24/12V converter
Mechanical Stewart Warner oil pressure, water temp, and voltage gauges.
Custom bullbar and sliders (all bolt on)
Rear custom swing-a-way tire carrier and fuel can holders
Belton 50mm suspension in 2001/2
White best top soft top
Includes Bikini Top
Supra seats
Ammo boxes for rear storage, bolted to the rollbar
1/2" body lift
One chrome lugnut per wheel
Too much to list that was put on new in 1999/2000
Firewall extended down past floor to create better joint to tub (two bolts per side)

I have the hard top (it is dinged on one side) and has never been worked or fitted. It is in fair shape. I have the rear ambulance doors and both side doors. Again, fair shape (need lower skins). I also have two additional side doors in good shape, no guts. I have the metal windshield frame (fair shape) with good glass and rubber). I have the factory rear and front seats. All can be available as part of the deal.

The truck was put together and taken apart numerous times, while I worked the fit and finish, before the final holes were drilled, then everything was sent out to be individually painted. I then did the final assembly in the spring of 2000.

Being a 1981 BJ42 it is 4spd, manual steering, 3B diesel.

All bolts never seized, SS hardware used, all metal to metal has numerous coats of paint between, and steel to aluminium has numerous coats of paint, and lots of Silkaflex (two tubes), and add ons have rubber washers.

Lots of pictures of the process, which will go to the new owner, as well as all major receipts.

The motor has never been worked, and afaik it is original. Oil pressure/compression numbers are available.

I have been anal about maintenance, with oil changes every 5000kms, using Delo15/40 the majority of the time.

Rear main seal just replaced, and EDIC just repaired.

This is not a perfect truck. The drive train has 317,000kms on it. I have used it since the renovation (Moab twice, and Blackhills once, as well as local trips). There is pin stripping. It is however, a fantastic foundation...cause it's all there.

Price is $19,500 cdn.

I am open to trades plus cash for a high mileage, no rust, maintained, FZJ80 (1993/94) with lockers. I am more then happy to take my vehicle to a shop of your choice to have it inspected, as I expect you will be with yours.

where did you get the half soft/hard doors?

Aqualu lowers, custom uppers. Uppers not a perfect fit, but have served me through a few wetcoast winters.

This is a beautiful "summer fun" truck. Always has been one of my fave's.!!! Greg has put alot of time, dollars and hard work into "her". It certainly shows.
Great pic of Moab, btw...

Price dropped to $5000 but open to all offers.

Dropped!!!? Didn't you just post this rig earlier at $2500?

Greg, there is a guy across the freeway from your shop that rebuilt an EDIC for me when I did my daughters truck. He charged me like $60 or so and as far as I know it works great. He works out of his house and unfortunately I can't remember his name.

Yup, it is there now Charles. I installed a brass busbar on the firewall after the renovation, and have a ground lead from the firewall to the busbar, and any add on electrical ground lead to it, then the busbar is grounded to the frame, at the same point as the battery ground, which is right beside the engine ground....So I don't think it's a ground pathway issue.

Andre, yes...Sheldon will have his FZJ80 converted well before me I am sure, however I am looking to the future as well. If I do not find a trade, then a RHD HDJ81 may well be in the cards.

Thanks Petra. I know I will miss it, however there will be another in the future.

what wrong with people when they try to sell their Toyota s .If you can send somebody a picture you surely can just post it and save a lot of wasted time sending pictures to every bored/ to broke to buy lunch/ sit infront of a screen all day nothing better to do a whole.

You should have seen in the tough truck race. Funny stuff.

It is now sporting a bitchin' primer and oragne bad flame job.

1PM the night before the race+lots of spray paint+1 case of beer+wally= funnay.

OH yeah- that first pic is a bit old. It has rattle can flames now and a new left fender.

I wouldn't sell a damn thing to pay bill collectors. Look, to be brutally honest, if his remaining time to enjoy the car is limited, what the hell does he care about his credit rating. I'd keep the car and enjoy it, let the phone ring. They can't take what he doesn't have, and like you said, the money he gets won't make a dent in the medical bills. Debt does not transfer, if he's not here, the money issue is moot. Transfer the title into your name, let him enjoy the car, there's more to life than debt service.
