foam in radiator

Well,

I got it flushed. Not able to get a sample to send to Blackstone. No more puking of the foam. Had some issues the next with rough running. Think I might have got water somewhere it isn't supposed to be while trying to clean off the orange slime. Seems to be running fine now, no foam, no running hot. Still paranoid and plan to do the test to see if I have a leaky headgasket. The radiator shop said they would do a carbon monoxide analysis for free (I guess they have a chemical that turns blue in the presence of CO coming out of the coolant).

The two shops I took the cruiser to had never seen anything like this before.

We have the same problem...

We purchased an 1994 FZJ80 a few weeks ago. Just getting to looking at it now. Bought it with the knowledge that it had a blown HG. However, after closer inspection we found that there is NO mixing of coolant into the oil(pan). Rather odd we thought. The rad has the SAME foam inside. The tranny dip stick is clean/clear, so is the oil dip stick. Later model 2F's have an oil cooler that often goes, mixing the two fluids, cause engine falure. More research to be done. We feel your pain...:)

Had the radiator professionaly flushed and am still dealing with a lot of this crud in my system.

In fact I am running hot with this hotter weather and am trying to find out why. I am pretty sure this foam has plugged my radiator and am now contemplating whether I need a new radiator or not.

Found this thread while searching for something else. That foam looks exactly like what happens when GM Dexcool is mixed with the normal green stuff. If you're having no problems now, hopefully you filled with a 50/50 mix of Toyota red and distilled water. That's all I ever use and have never had a problem with it. I know I'm resurrecting an old thread but I figured I'd put this up for the next person that ends up having an issue like this.

i would just get a new TYC or KOYO for $200 and be done with, not worth flushing the older radiator, and you still ended up with an old radiator.

That "foam" is coolant mixed with oil. Mixing different coolants (assuming they will react) will produce more of a "sandy" substance. To have it as bad as OP has, it has to have a LOT of oil contamination. Possibly a cracked head letting oil mix with a coolant passage or something. I've seen this gunk happen on few mitsubishi forklift motors.

Usually its the other way around - dropping oil pressure after turning off the car will allow still pressurized coolant(since its hot) to leak into other low-pressure areas.
