Only my opinion, of course, but a good roll cage does not (and should not) reach the appropriate height to accomadate a proper soft top.

If you look at a soft top on a 40 (or a Jeep or old Bronco) the bow systems creat a natural roof line that sits above any roll bars/cages, like a hard top would.

In the link to Dan's build, you can see that his soft top sits well-below where the natural roof line for an 80 would be. Tapage's build, on the other hand, looks like one might expect when envisioning a soft top 60-Series.

A soft top using the roll cage as it's support will absolutely work...it just doesn't look "correct", in my opinion.

Unplug From Work

Well, I unplugged from working my job and working on the Cruiser. I took my family for a 4 day camping trip to the Sierras for some rest and relaxation, and some trout fishin' of course. Got back at a decent time today and unpacked and still had enough energy throw on a couple of coats of bondo.

Thanks for the kind words.

Running out of time for family trips like these, the kids are growing up quickly. 1 more year and the daughter is off to college. This trip was epic and a memorable family experience.

Downsized from a 22' travel trailer. This has all the comforts but simpler, and I can get it to places my other trailer couldn't.

It's a SoCal Teardrops trailer and the builder is here on Mud. It is an amazing product, the build quality is second to none.

I forget how young/old I am...depends on the crowd I guess. Family trips were always the best and most frustrating for me as a kid/young adult but they're that good stuff that life's made of.

Progress continues

Finished the bondo and got primed and ready for Al's liner:

Time For Al's Liner

Sprayed the rear today with Al's Liner. Now I can move on to welding on my new tube bumber with integrated rear quarter protection. I am working my way to the front as I am not sure I can salvage the A pillars or just replace them.

Thank goodness for Al's, it is very forgiving with amateur body work.

Looks way good!! Awesome build!

Where did you get the Al's liner? I like the texture look of it.

Thanks! The convenient place for me to buy the Al's is my local 4 Wheel Parts.
