Just completed a SR and spring flip. Mine's extended another 5/8" forward too due to spring hanger placement that was mandated by my Saginaw box. I'm also running FJ55 rears so my WB is now around 101". I love the MUCH improved approach angle!

Ramon

time to get you a real roll cage ;)

Check my sig....it's here, just not complete. Takes a lot longer to build s*** than I usually think :)

you can say that again,

i thought id get mine done in a day, yeah it took like 10

Thanks all for the feedback.
Rockcod,
[Click on the Sully thread in my sig. for SR, spring flip and re-drill.]
Nice build thread. What a great project to do with your boy. My oldest daughter learned to drive in the 40. She does her own maintenance but I never could get her interested in turning wrenches. My youngest daughter is really bummed cause the 40 is and has been in various stages of teardown. Anyway you seem to have great fabrication skills!

Eric,
[So you say you got a axle that has aready been cut and turn? What was it set up to? Like suspension? Because if you change to SR it may change the caster ? I would call where you got it and see how they had it set up to. does that make sense? ]
Good point, its been so long I forgot how the axle was set up so I just sent an email to Jeremiah Proffitt. I hope I hear from him soon. I did order the axle for a SR. I actually did a SR in '95. It was the old Advanced Adapters 'rock finder' SR kit. Took it to Moab in 95. It was painful. I learned the hard way. It was a nice ride and handled well on the road but nasty when it 'found' a rock or tree stump. I thought about going back to the stock configuration but after I met and spoke with Jeremiah, I decided to go SOA.

Camcruiser13, you did a really nice job trimming your fenders! It looks good. Thanks for all of your comments.

Mtweller - Ramon, Your rig looks really sweet. It turned out very well proportioned. I think that's what I'm after, function and form. Did you have the stock 40 rear springs flipped before you put the 55 springs on?

Mace, with an SR doesn't the wheel - axle move backwards when hitting a bump? I battled the SUA/SOA decision in my own mind until my brain hurt. Why do you favor the SUA?

Senor Aguas,
[the rig was too high to fit in the garage and a little tipsy on the trail.]
I'm very interested in your desire to go to smaller tires. I understand the desire to have your truck fit in the garage. (I have the same issue). What I am really concerned about and my biggest fear of doing an SOA is that the center of gravity will be too high with bigger tires. Right now I have 33' tires but I was considering going to 37" tires. What can you tell me about your experience with your rig feeling 'tipsy'?

Any other mud members experience center of gravity too high and tipping or coming close?

As far as the tipsy comment goes, its all subjective. When you lift around 5" for the SOA, and then 3-4" more with the tire size without increasing the width of the vehicle any, it gets a little tall and unstable feeling. This is why people will swap wider axles or put 1.5 inch wheel spacers on.

Really, fitting in my garage with the hardtop was my major concern while still having the clearance to go wheeling. The only reason I had 37's in the first place is because they came on my rig. Here it is now with the 35's that I traded for.

mtweller -- I love those tube fenders. That may be my next project. But, I'm a little afraid of how much time/skill they will take to install.

Thanks. One of these days I may build some tube fenders but until I crush these ones they'll work

Senor Aguas,
Very nice looking Truck! It does look like it just barely fit into the garage.
I really like the wipers on the top of the windshield. Are those vacuum operated? I Like the hood too.

If the springs are flat at rest, the wheel, tire moves forwards on articulation..
That is why SR rigs tend to need long travel driveshafts...

I don't favor SUA over SOA.

I favor links ;)

Honestly, it is a personal preference.
