Doors are on finally.
Lots of fun to drive without the doors but much quieter with them, which was good news. Wasn’t sure if that’d be the case but the sound proofing paid off.

Been meaning to give a shout out to the Tig button guy. This is a great piece of kit. One of the best investments. I haven’t used the pedal since I hooked the Tig Button up.

EDIT 2 hours later…
Well the Tig button guy can’t make me not stupid. I laid down some of the best dimes I’ve ever done on that latch.
And then looking at some pictures again I realized I welded it on upside down. At least it isn’t painted yet. Duh. Get to try it again.

I love my tig button. One of the best investments on my tig machine. I run pedal for D/C most of the time, but all my A/C is with the button.

I like the super fine control of the pedal for DC. Much easier to dime it.

Driving the beast Daydream* everywhere I can, I’ve gotten about 600 miles on it. Drive, see what needs fixed or tweaked, drive…
Have an issue that sounds like air in the injectors when I’m getting down to half a tank of fuel, mild to moderate power loss and a lot of black smoke, comes and goes randomly. I can’t make it happen. Dropping the tank tomorrow and welding an outlet near the bottom to do away with the Fass tank suction mess, will draw from the bottom on the outside.

There’s a lot of great things on this truck that I’m happy with, but a few that I’m not and they seem to be the big ticket items that I’ve paid good money for, not what I’ve built myself.
The Fass fuel pump is a joke mistake for this application. They go on and on about how much air is in diesel fuel, then give you a piece of what looks like pex tubing to fit over a barb on the tank suction head, and warn you not to clamp it. After a few times trial fitting the pex about falls off the barb, so of course it’s clamped, so of course it’s my fault. I’ll fix it. And I won’t pay for their proprietary fittings and hose ever again either, when they could have used standard fittings. Screw push to lock hose, give me a hose clamp.

Another gripe is the Dakota Digital cluster. Nice setup of gauges, with two little led screens to toggle through info. One of the screens stopped working, and the tech basically said it was probably a connector not pushed together or bad pins, but we couldn’t open it without voiding warranty, and to send it back and they’d fix it. No way for them to send me another and I send mine back, which honked me off. They’re not getting it right now, that’s for sure, I just got the thing running and their poor QC is not my fault. One LED screen it is, oh the humanity.

The last is vintage air, the fan, the whole system, just starts and stop randomly. They said electrical noise, install filters so we did, no difference. They say it could be pins, we don’t see a problem there. We’re going to isolate more circuits and move the noise suppressors next to the unit, but in my opinion all that should have been worked out before being sold.

Oh yea, Jesse at High Angle Driveline owes me a driveshaft, but I’d obviously rather have my money back now. Finally met someone as busy as me with about the same bookkeeping skills.

I’ll quit complaining now.
On the good side, Accutune, I’ve said it before and will probably again. Helpful, and you can tell they like what they do.
Same with Thoroughbred diesel. They want to help more than they want to sell you something.

Torque King is an absolute wealth of knowledge.

The linked suspension bible on irate made this what it is, really.

All the usual suspects representing the Toyota side of things, SOR, CCOT, City Racer, Cruiser Outfitters, I’m sure I’m forgetting some.

*about the name Daydream, the song by the same name
came on the radio probably at 2 or 3 in the morning and really hit hard. The name was decided. “Why waste it on sleep when you can be living your daydream.”

I appreciate not just the knowledge on here, which is immense, but the encouragement in here as well. Probably helped me get over more than one hump.

Can’t wait to meet some of you at SAS, and more of you over time.

Sweet! I can’t wait to see this one in person. It turned out great. There is nothing like a crunch right before a deadline. Good luck with the fuel pump. I bet that your frustrations with your gauges will fade once you get them dialed in. After watching the packaging center process boxes at the airport earlier this week, it is amazing that they can ship electronics that way.

My deadline to pick up my cruiser moved again, and hopefully I will have it back on Saturday. I was supposed to leave for the cabin on Sunday, but that isn’t happening. We are about to find out whether we can build a garage in the rain/snow in three days as it has been pouring for a week in the San Juan Mountains. Bring your rain jacket!

This will be the year of Stretched 40's at SAS.....I can not wait to see this in person.

Sweet rig

Mentioned it in the SAS thread, but wanna give a shout out to the crew at Rusty Nail Racing. I’ve been smoking pretty bad at elevation, probably overfueled to the point of dumping fuel in the oil.
Called them up, they said come right in they had everything for an oil change for this engine, and they disassembled the p pump to turn the fuel down while I waited.

Dude , what a beautiful truck ! Very well done . I love everything about it 🥰

Does anyone following my thread have one of these? Or a truck to part from?

I know it’s a long shot but Blacknight1 needs one for a build.
Build thread here 4 door Fj45 on 80 series chassis - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/4-door-fj45-on-80-series-chassis.1257670/page-34#post-16035755

@Tank5 can we use the one Mike found in that barn?

It was rusty and beat. Not worth the shipping.🤣

I would tell him to look into getting one of the Chinese reproductions.
