FJC mirrors on the 60; best headlight connection?

So, I installed a set of FJ Cruiser mirrors on my 60 last month to replace the junk farm truck mirrors it had. Huge improvement.

Since installing them I've had wires down on my floor going to the marker light in the mirrors. I'm going to forego wiring the power feature because I don't want to add switches for mirrors in a 60. But I do want that neat little light to work with my running lights and I can't seem to find anything under the dash or in the cab to tie into. I could run wires all the way to the front marker lights, but I hate adding long runs of wires to confuse me later.

What would you recommend as a clean wire connection for mirror lights?

That is so random as I was in Tahoe recently and passed a brown 60 with FJC mirrors.

Or, you could pull the fuse box, and splice into the marker circuit from the backside.

I'll look again in the fuse box. My fuse box looks non factory and there's no cover. Are these supposed to have a cover that labels each fuse?

To install I had to drill 4 new holes (3 for mounting and 1 for wires), and grind down alignment bosses and screw mounting surfaces so the mirror would sit flush on the door. The 60 door contour matches the mirror profile perfectly.

Turns out I couldn't see the trees from the forest. I tend to do things the hard way; didn't see the factory fuse panel because the after market fuse box under the dash took all my attention.

Do they have any vibration at speed or on the trail? The only thing I hate about the 60 mirrors is the drivers side vibrates like mad!

These are really solid mirrors. The only vibration the glass gets is a little at idle, but that's mainly due to the 3B. It's so nice having a curved passenger side glass again, too. On the trail they are awesome, so much visibility, no shake and trees push them closed instead of braking them.

I bought these used from different guys on fjcruiserforums.com. Paid less than an aftermarket eBay pair.

Wired them up to the running light relay this morning.

DUDE! I've had this on my "not critical but really wanna do" list for a couple years now, but it seemed no one else was really interested, save for one or two people. Now that I see a pair actually installed on a 60 I freakin LOVE them!

I wouldn't have those mirror light hard wired to the marker light circuit, so my first thought would be (as long as the mirrors use LEDs and not incandescents) since your headlights (using the factory harness) are a switched ground with the +12V coming from the "common" lead on the bulbs, I'd tap into the wire that feeds the +12VDC to the bulbs and run a lead from that to the +12VDClead of the FJC mirrors. I seem to remember they have a 5-lead connector on them, which would jive perfectly with the fact that 62s (my model) have a 3-lead connector for motorized mirrors with no lights.

This also might be a prime opportunity to get an upgraded headlight wiring harness from slcFJ62 on here. He took the Wayne Tangen's original idea and perfected it, and his harnesses are top notch.

The install looks almost too simple to be true. How well did the mounting surface mate up with the door sheet metal? Did you have to massage anything?

I have had a pair of these laying around for years for another project, but have thought about putting them on a 60. Well the 60 project got cancelled, now I have a 61, and might just go this way!

So, are you saying that you would have these on all the time? Toyota mirrors have incandescent bulbs in them. Aftermarket mirrors have LEDs and some have heating elements as well. From my understanding, the incandescents provide heating to the frosty glass on cold days.

On installing: I started out trying to modify the door to fit the mirror. I didn't get very far, and decided this is stupid. I just need 3 mounting holes and a center hole for wires. I took off the mirror mount gasket and ground down everything on a bench grinder until the mirror set flush on the door with the gasket on. I also painted the silver a nice flat black (obviously). Popped the glass out and removed the black trim, sanded the nice clear coat over the shiny silver and sprayed it.

On headlight upgrades: I think the PO installed some upgrades there. Its got Hella lights and are ok bright. BUT, this new thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/745314-hid-lights-60-a.html is pretty much what I want. Inexpensive, too.

The mirrors look good. I like the louvered hood. Just did 166 in mine.

Thanks! 166 looks like a lot of work. I think the louvers are a nice touch. It was done by a PPO or maybe a PPPO.
