I have had a 92 for several years and am very dissapointed in the performance and the shift points. It does not downshift under load as I believe it should. Does anyone have any meaningful performance options that won't break the bank. I see Jet Chips has a chip for this model. Has anyone tried it?
I also recently purchased a 97 and there is a huge difference in performance between the 4.0 and 4.5.
Thanks

There is a HUGE difference between the 91-92 3FE and the 93-97 1FZE. I supercharged my 97 and made it as powerful as a V8. Not sure if there is a super or turbo charger for your unit.

How big are the tires. Possible re-gear might help

I bought a new to me 92 about a month ago. Had my mechanic adjust the shifter linkage or whatever it is that adjusts the shift points. It has made a huge difference in the overall performance of the truck. I highly recommend this as an easy first step.

be careful, over adjusting the shift points off the trhootle return cable can cause premature wear in the transmission. probably fine to move in 1/8" and see if this improves. remember the 92 has an a440 trans vs the woosie a343 in the 97. basically the 92 trans is quite a bit larger.
as for performance mods, the biggest one is to the driver, why be in a hurry, slow the hell down, life is beautiful.

Thanks everyone. I am just going to relax and enjoy. It is in excellent condition and I am getting 15.5 MPG which, I understand is very good for this vehicle.
