Hmmm, thats what i was worried about. One of my bungs has rusted through at the base, i think there is enough meat to weld it back in but i was concerned that the metal might not respond well to cleanup and welding.

hi up some of the guys parting out fj62s. i bet you can score a good used O2 bung for cheap that way.

I think that SOME, not all spark plug "non=foul" bushing thing-a-mabobs will work, cheap too!!!!

George.... do you have a extra splitcase stuffed in a corner some where that needs a home? Got a buddy that is gonna need one, lemme know ok?

well, my part of this project is now officially done!

i spent yesterday and today tidying up a few items and finishing the t-case shift linkage. brett and i had discussed it and decided to try to modigy the stock linkage instead of building a custom twin stick setup.
i was able to do just that with only minor mods to the stock setup, even though the t-case is not a few inches further back.
basically, the linkage breaks down into two segments: high-low and 2wd-4wd.
i started with the 2-4wd portion. i was able to remove the square plastic part along with the stud it snaps onto by just tapping it out. it's a press fit so they come out fairly easily. i then created a sleeve to go over the actuator on the t-case. drilled a hole in the sleeve and used a thick wall 3/8 nut to take up the keyway cut in the actuator. i had to trim the nut just a tad to make it fit perfect. then i slid the piece of tubing over the actuator capturing the nut. the i used a pair of aurora heim ends (3/8" hole and 3/8" fine thread) to create a link. i spaced the shifter stud about 1/4" out from the trans so the linkage would be at a perfect 90 deg angle. deflection is never good if it can be avoided. then with a little trimming here and a little "massaging" there i was able to finish that part of the linkage.
the second part was fairly simple as well. i lengthened the stock hi-lo linkage by roughly 2.5" and straightened out the bend in it to about 2/3 of the original angle. took a little trial and error but it ended up fitting well.
the last part was to heat up the shifter itself and slightly bend it to work without hitting the floor board (trans tunnel).
all this took a few hours but it now works perfect and looks stock. i could'nt be happier with the results. fc did have a few good pointers along the way. thankns again for the help bro!

last but not least i installed the fj60 trans tunnel along with both of the oem shifter boots. then i double checked all the fluids, looked for any leaks and let the 62 off the jack stands.
the new exhaust sounds cool and it's definetly got more power with the standard trans.
i pulled it out of the shop and put it in "stupid low". well, it definetly crawls. at 3k rpm you're doing less than half of walking speed.
drove it around ther parking lot and tried a bunch of different gear and t-case combination. then i took it out on the road just to double check everything.
overall, i'm really happy with how this project turns out. i hope brett will be as pleased. he's coming to pick it up on sunday and then it'll head up to luke's shop for the next stage of the build up: brett will be doing the soa with luke's help.

thanks again brett, i do appreciate you letting me work on your rig!

Georg,

Looks great....someday when I figure out what I want/afford maybe I can tow my SH&^ up there for you to do a little work???  Have a great weekend

dude! that fwd actuator adaptor that allows you to run a heim is brilliant!

wow I mean that is a great idea!

no! no! I mean REALLY!! who ever came up with that idea 4 years ago really had it going on!

seriously! I mean,........WOW!

"a few pointers"

here is a couple pointers for you!:flipoff2:

Well I headed to Georg's & picked this beast up yesterday. Upon arrival, I crawled underneath for a peek at Georg's handy-work... everything looked like brand new! All his time cleaning & painting really paid off. From top to bottom, this job turned out 100% factory looking. And the skid / tranny mount that FC made is a friggin work af art, totally bitchin. I fired it up and w/ the new (bigger) exhaust and a magnaflow it sounds like a V8 now!

As I drove away from the shop, the increase in power was very noticable...then I got on the freeway and was very impressed with how it pulls. Now granted, I'm running the stock 4.11's with 29" balony skin tires...cruising at 70 I was pushing 3,100 rpm and if I wanted to pass someone, it actually had power left to do so. Once shes SOA & I have my 36 TSL's on I'll of couse lose power but I'll still be able to cruise at 2,600 or so...this thing doesnt have to be a rocket, just needs to get me to the local trails. I also threw it into stupid low...yep, it's stupid. Final crawl with the 4.11's is 156:1...plenty low enough for me.

I needed some motivation to keep me going on this project...so I tested out the new X-member / skid (yep, it works!), and jacked it up enough to get the 36's kinda on there, just to see what it'll look like....here's a little teaser shot

As soon as I get back from my Death Valley trip it's off to 4x4 labs for phase 2

So you are going to stick with the 4.11's Brett?

That is an excellent setup:cheers:

Ya...I figured that with 4.11's I'll have a bit of OD built in for freeway speeds, plus they are a bit stronger than 4.56's or 88's and it saves another $350

Brett,
I had never seen that rig!
Its beautifully CLEAN! Gotta love the rigs from the west!
Im glad it turned out so well. Looks and sounds like a BITCHIN mod!
Ive GOTTA do somethin with the 3FE.
Like you say though..."to and from"

Chicago

glad you're happy with the performance and craftsmanship brett! i thought there was a noticeable difference as far as the power goes also. love the teaser pics with the bigger tires on it! :grinpimp:
