Hey LC Fam. I'm clipping through the head-to-toe resto on my 88 FJ62 at a nice pace now. I'm down to the trim details, inside and out. I'm having trouble getting consist ant information from my vast online research regarding the specific differences between the FJ62 G vs. the FJ62 GX, and any other FJ62's that were available in the US. The threads on here, that I found, are also non specific. My VIN number is JT3FJ62G8J0079947. The VIN plate lists the manufacturing date as Nov. 1987, all the paper work history that came with the rig, including title, lists 1988. This tells me I have an early 88. From what I have read, if mine were a GX, the VIN would list GX and not G.

In addition, I can't tell what color interior was original from the factory. The rig's interior was re-done at some point several years ago, at which point all the upholstery was changed to a custom Brown and light beige vinyl. Most of the hard components are brown, but several are grey. A few were grey and painted brown. This leads me to believe either the previous owner doing all the reup bought a rig with grey trim, wanted one with brown, and went about a major effort to swap out grey OEM interior trim parts for Brown. This, or the rig came with the brown trim package, and this owner doing the reup work was replacing A LOT of damaged or missing trim parts, and used what was easiest to find, some grey and some brown. Any way to determine what the came from the factory???

a few pics attached. A couple points that makes this a mystery is that I have a fairly even mix of brown and Grey seatbelts. Also the entire floor of the rig has been rhino lined in brown, so no carpet floor mats.

Thanks all!!

In the USA, we didn't get G vs GX variants...Or at least we never got the badge.
It looks to me like your 62 was originally gray inside. Toyota didn't mix colors inside.

Mine’s an 89 and only shows a G in the vin

You should be able to get the interior colour code off the ID plate under the hood, near the brake booster.

Yeah the US got one trim level with minimal extra options. I have never seen a US brochure indicate trim levels on the 60 like Toyota did in other countries.
