Does anyone make the ribbed type cargo floor patch panel/panel that one can make into a fuel pump access hatch cover? Something that can be seam sealed down and secured with a few screws or bolts?
Trying to fancy up a previous owner chop job on the cargo floor in a 1989 FJ62

I do not know if anyone makes a direct replacement, I've not seen one. A small matching panel can be made on a bead roller without much fuss.

Here ya go

Isn't there a factory access cover for the fuel pump?

The sender access panel is only a few inches from the pump. Why Toyota engineers didn't alter the access panel just a tiny bit to make the pump accessible is weird. Especially because the fuel sending unit is way less critical. Just too cheap to switch from the 60 design I'm sure.

That video of the guy making metal patterns was pretty neat.. I wish someone could do a run of say 12"x 12" floor overlays that can be used to neatly cover a cutout floor section.. It has a few weird shapes in the floor so it would need to mimick the actual floor and the variations in that area.

My guess is because the 3fe was only sold in a few markets, the rest were 3f(mechanical pum or dsl...and didn't need access to the pump.

True, I often forget how limited the 3FE was distributed around the world.

Excellent topic discussion gentlemen. So guys, what’s the bottom line here for a custom made FJ62 3FE fuel pump access panel that -

1. Follows the floor lines?
2. Incorporates the fuel sender and fuel pump access into one door opening?
3. OR, Incorporates a single access door for the fuel pump only?
4. Provides Installation Instructions including template as to exactly where to cut opening on rear floor deck to avoid fuel tank and fuel plumbing lines? (I’m assuming a cutting wheel can be used without blowing-up skyhi??)

Seems logical, but what excuse did Toyota have for not putting in an access panel to the fuel pump for the oddles of second and third generation 4Runners sold in America?
We must have been their biggest market for these. Perhaps a safety concern?

That is a decent partial solution.... I do think though it will sit high up on top of the highest 'ribs' an make itself noticed
I would use a dolly and hammer to flatten out the ribs right around the new door. The goal is to get a tight, weatherproof seal but I think you could get it looking professional as well. You may only ever need to look at it once or twice in your lifetime.
