Recently de-smogged my 90 FJ62. I haven't started it up because I ran into something with the vacuum hoses that I wanted your advice on.

First, here are a couple of diagrams that are in multiple threads - pretty much the de facto diagrams:

Here's the problem I see: In the diagrams, there are only 2 vacuum lines coming off the top of the air filter/canister. One line goes down to the VCV for the charcoal cannister, the other connects to the hard vacuum lines at the top/back of the intake.

Mine, and other peoples, seem to have 3 vacuum lines - the 3rd one being larger in diameter. Here's a pic from this post: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fj62-vacuum-hose-question-where-does-this-go.46840/

You can see the 3 lines (closest to the firewall). In that thread I linked to there are conflicting answers on where that 3rd larger vacuum line should go.

1.) Post #2 in that thread says it should go to the nipple on top of the distributor
2.) Post #7 says that a vacuum line on the top of the distributor should go to the firewall and eventually inside the cabin to provide dry & clean air to keep condensation out of the dist.

On my truck, the line off the air filter canister was just open on the other end. The distributor vacuum line went to the firewall. This can be seen just above the white oil filter

This thread here shows a guy with TWO vacuum line inlets on his dizzy: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/3fe-air-cleaner-vacuum-hose.219399/

In a nutshell I'm looking to clarify where the 3rd vacuum line on the back of air canister should go. AND, where should the distributor's vacuum nipple be plugged in to?

I have 1 too many vacuum lines and nowhere to plug one of them in. Maybe I have an aftermarket dizzy with only 1 nipple on top? I jumped out to SOR.com to view the dizzy there, but I don't see 2 lines?

Confused for sure...

Thanks!!

I either really stumped the group or it's a poorly worded question... :D

Either way, FWIW, I just left that third vacuum line unconnected and open. It's on the air cleaner side of the MAF, so it not drawing in unregulated air - my concern is if it should be connected elsewhere....

But, I left it open, wrapped up the desmog, and she absolutely runs fantastic. Huge difference - just seems more peppy and less drag on the motor. Also fixed the high-idle problem I had

All in all, well worth it

The OEM distributor cap has 2 ports. One should go to the firewall and one should go to the big port on the intake canister. I think the design intent was for clean cabin air to get pulled through the distributor.

That explains it! I will probably plug the air canister one eventually

Thanks! ;)

On the 60's one of the 3 lines on the charcoal canister goes to the fuel tank vent line running along the frame. I would think the 62's are similar.
