Re:wanted ... door and ignition locks

Take all the lock cylinders to a reputable locksmith. They should be able to rekey the cylinders to all accept the same key.

Re:FF rear axle for FJ

You can find them for as low as $450 to $500. You pretty much won't find them used from anywhere but the LC parts dealers. I know Man-A-Fre has a good deal on them right now--$395 for a used 40 FF rear end  . Pretty sweet deal considering what they used to cost... The part that really sucks is the shipping. A large, heavy, akward item that can only be shipped by truck = $$$.

As to the semi to FF conversion, you can probably find enough info to do it yourself (or have some one do it) but there really isn't a "kit' anymore. If you search on the topic, you will find Tupp and Warn and both of those do not exist anymore.

Personally, I have chosen to dump the semi and install a factory Toy FF rear. I would never dream of attempting to convert it--way to much work for me. My project is 80 series e-lockers into my FJ60, which require the FF axles because of fitment issues. The e-locker diff will not fit into the semi-float housing without mods--it drops right into the FF housing (as long as you have it "locked" first...) :D

akward = awkward

Man that word is ugly...

Re:FF rear axle for FJ

just a warning to would be buyers of a "40 series" FF from some of the vendors.

there are two types, early to 1980 FJ45 style and 1981+ style. The early have dual brake cylinder backing plates and a "3 nut" arrangement for hub bearing and axle seal while the later have a "3 finger" lock nut + screws and plate and the seal resides in the spindle. Most of the MAF/SOR special deals are the early style and do not accept the cable/electric axle locker shaft. The parts to overhaul or repair (ala 3 nuts and seals) are haard to come by. The brakes on early also use an eight bolt backing plate (vs 4 bolt for 1981+) which is again difficult to find.

They are a "full floating axle" but not very modern.
70 series axles are essentially identical to a 1981+ FJ40 and moving the perches is easy if you want to hunt down that style.

Re:FJ-40 Parts Wanted! Please help!!!

Does your spare tire fit on pass. side? I've got very nice one. Only rust is on the hinges. Struture is perfect. One of the nicest I've seen in a long time. No Bondo. Solid door with all the Hardware. 60.00 It goes on e-bay Sat

Re:FJ-40 Parts Wanted! Please help!!!

I'm not sure which side it mounts on. When I bought my rig, it had no tailgate or mounting holes in the body for a spare tire carrier. I guess I will have to make my own joles in the body for it. Do you have any pics? Does it mount to a flat surface? If so, that would be fine. My e-mail address is hookemdet@yahoo.com

Need a hood, font fenders, bib, ect

Hey guys
I'm looking for some straight rust free parts preferably in the southwest part of the country. I am looking for almost an entire front end. I need a hood, front fenders, front bib, and the side pieces that run along above the fenders. As far as the parts needing to be in the southwest that isn't a must I just don't want to pay really high shipping. If anybody knows of reasonable shipping I am willing to get these parts from anywhere.

Thank you

Re:headlight washer stuff

I have the tubing and the washers themselves. The water container is cracked, but the motor is good. How about $30.00 for everything? Let me know.

Re:1971 carburetor & VSV

I've got a VSV from a 11/69 fj55- I never ran it, I bought the truck non-op, and first thing I did was install the 350- so no need for the VSV. Where in CA are you? I'm in the Sacramento area...
