FJ60 Air conditioning troubles. (1 Viewer)

Everything seems to be working well now. I'm getting about 48 degrees F at the middle dash vent (Pampered Chef cooking thermometer, for those who are interested ).

Another question or problem, however:

My engine is pinging slightly under load when the A/C clutch ie engaged. Any particular part I need to check in relation to the A/C? Recent full tune up and valve adjustment, timing set to factory specs. The only other time its pinged is when my EGR was bypassed, but that is up and running well now.

just cause timing is at factory spec doesnt mean it is optimal for an old engine. also your fuel can play a large role in this also.

I thought at 153,000 miles I was just past the break-in period!

Good point on the fuel, although I tried premium when I had the EGR bypassed to see if it would help the pinging, and it didn't seem, to improve it.

I may need to try it again for this problem, or adjust the timing some.

I wonder how much this 10% ethanol affects it? I noticed in Cresson today on the way to Fort Worth, where they have the race track, the new Texacco station was advertising 100% gasoline fuel- no ethanol.

yea i have 80k more than you putting me at 236,xxx but mine is getting quite tired tho running strong still.

i dunno how much fuel will effect it can a lot if you got some bad gas. the ethenol does effect it as well.

the last time i saw 100% fuel (gas) was back in 2006!
Right around the time i got my cruiser actually within a couple of months +-.
