I will look into the cam lock, in fact, I have several sitting around, but I recall it sits way too low to catch onto the stopper. It was designed to keep things simple to keep prices down.

There are several different variations of the SouthCo camlock with several variations of depth and pawl configuration.

Have you determined a price?

Not yet, at this point, I'm waiting to get the tailgate in my hands for further fondling and dissecting before I can provide a price.
If I'm changing latches, it will also affect pricing.

+1 - and someone can add/change/modify once they have it as they see fit.

Been waiting on WagongGear's for a long time. Wanted to do this myself - obvious lack of skills - and so glad to see soon to be on the market.

There's definitely a market for tailgate lids. I have a set of Kevin Rowland's side panels and a tailgate lid. The fit and finish are as good as Noel's Stainless Steel Trays; they are absolutely perfect. The only two downsides of Wagongear's lids are: 1) he isn't making them anymore and, 2) they are pretty heavy. Aluminum would be an improvement for the frame but the lid itself is likely heavier than the plastic used by Kevin.

Could you please weigh your lid and the material removed to get a net change? Thanks.

I have yet to weigh it, but it should be around 15-20#, but 17# is a close guesstimate based on calculations on the material.

When you're finished with the final design/options list, you should do a 'definite want one' sign-up list with enough of a non-refundable deposit to cover your material costs. And when you're ready, put me on that list =)

I've been waiting to do my interior for about a year and trying to collect interior parts. I have the tail gate panel but waiting for Kevin to do his side panels. I would be interested in your side panels if you ever get to them later on.My concern would be the weight. Thanks for your efforts.

I will be working side panels for the FJ60 shortly, I'm currently working on improving the tailgate. I just found the perfect Southco latch, I'm very excited about it, but it's slightly pricey.

If nothing else, offer it as an option for the guys that are wanting a nicer end product.

A) Economy with std latches
B) Economy PLUS with premium latches

I'd stay away from the std's. . .rate of resistance is alarming!

I really like the aluminum with it's smooth surface. Adding or rather, taking out all the vinyl/fabric panels in the back adds a lot of noise potential (I would think). With this surface covering them with some sort (or the factory covering) or sound deadening would kill that sound. I've always liked the idea of these but was not too excited with the prospect of having all the plastic or metal interior surfaces.
I can't buy just yet but I really like this option.

Owning everything that KR sells for a 60, the fit and finish of a well made US product makes you want to buy more from that vendor. Make it perfect before the first one leaves for shipping. As I install my WagonGear products, I smile ear to ear at the care and precision that is put into a design and carried out. Make it nice and people will buy more stuff. Quality sells.

The edge of the cut sheet metal hanging into the "door" opening looks like an accident waiting to happen. Sell it with some pinch weld weatherstripping. And bandaids.

I like Jason's plan of shipping NON powdercoater products. No matter how carefully you package something, it will find a way to get screwed up in shipping. The powdercoater I use would do that piece for $20 or less. Shipping them bare will be your best bet.

My .02¢ Keep it up.. Make them exceptionally nice! If I didn't already have a KR design, I would want to be on your list :)
