Been searching for snorkle ideas for an FJ55 with a 32/36 carb.

What have you guys done
What works what does not
Any suggestions

Search back in this forum I asked a similar question. There were some pics in it and talk about materials and what not. Should be of good help. Although I have yet to put any of it to use.

Spent the last couple of hours searching and reading. Again.

How about pics in and out of thengine bay of snorkled 55"s
especially with a carb

I was thinking of removing the KandN filter
Fabbing air in mounting spot on the bottom plate of the carb of course with some kind of low stiky gasket for a seal.
Plus with the head breather hose allready routed to the bottom plate it is one less mod needed

There are only a couple pigs with snorkels maybe 3 I can think of so there arent a lot of pics and things. You just have to be imaginative. Look at other models to help you get a better idea.

Is this because the aftermarket snorkles for 55's are basically non existant?

I am working on a few ruff drafts in my head right now. A couple of course were no goes once I thought about it for more than a day.

dude theres a great pic right here right now, how could you miss it??

Believe it or not two of those pics were some of the first I saved for ideas.
I really like the rear bumper with the taillight protection. Plus the cut out so you can still use the stock spare tire carrier. Very clean

They arent basically nonexistent they are nonexistent nobody makes a snorkel kit for a 55 everybody that has one has fabbed it themselves. I have run a bunch of ideas through my head and on some paper but I have to get some other things done first.

I've been toying with different ideas for 55 snorkels for a while, and i was thinking of fabricating something a bit different to the normal 3" tube type.
I was thinking of a stainless setup and fully tig weld up a snug fit section to kind of "wrap" around the quarter panel instead of sticking out before it enters throught the side.
Not sure if it will look any good or if i will do it, but it was an idea, and might be a good project for me at trade school.

Even blending the stainless into your 1/4 panel would look very sharp
Think Chip Foose

I am planning on using 3" exhaust tube, have it mandrel bent to fit the counture of the pig and use a safari snorkle cap and flex duct for the engine bay. Been told that the F air cleaner may work better as the air box for a snorkle.

Better qualify that a bit. Maybe only 3 or so local to you. Or three or so you have run into or something like that. I've seen at least twice that many just at Cruise Moab.

But Clemson's point is valid. Don't limit yourself to copyiong someone elses ideas. It hasn't been done that often, you can probably come up with somnething on your own which fits your needs/abilities/available resources much better.
Mark...

Good point Mark, how about 3 or so that I have seen. I'm sure there are more but I have not seen very many, I'm sure there are guys out there who don't even come on mud that have them so that would limit my knowledge of them as well.

i am planning on a short above the hood snorkel hummer style. i like that rather than the a-pillar.

Bringing this one up from the not so distant past. I'm planning on buying a 70 series snorkel and seeing if it will adapt. Around here they have "plastic welders" who I have seen modify Safari snorkels for some weird mods locals have done. Should turn out well I think... :)

Here are some photos, TLCcruiserman's 70:
