New to the forum and I just picked up my first fj45. I was told it was a 76 but title says 74. I have looked on numerous sites and have put in my frame code. I have had no luck decoding it and knowing what I have. It's from New Zealand and frame number is fj4578852. It does not have any other identification. Thanks in advance

The santa rosa truck! Did it stay local? Everything trim wise indicates its a 74, doors, turn signals, windshield frame etc. its definately not a 76,

Yea that's the one. It also doesn't have disc breaks. Great truck in person just can't figure out the age for ordering parts. I want to keep it as original as possible.

I live up in Auburn So it stayed pretty local. I was purchasing a troopy but this came up and I couldn't pass it up. I have 81 2b Diesel engine I was going to put in it but after seeing this truck I can't do that.

Do you have an engine pic? Not much changed from 72 to 74 parts wise, the big change was in 75, later doors, windshield, bigger 2f,

74 is the only year with a F155 with the improved oiling system. Not sure what market this is from but 72 to 73 had a few chances in the US. Seat style changed more then just bench to bucket overall style changed. Lower dash has a opening for a radio. Steering wheel, steering column and steering box changed

74 would have a F engine not a 2F. In the picture you can see a flat spot on the block above and to the right of the starter. The engine's serial number is stamped in that spot. It will either start with F or 2F. That aluminum valve cover would be off a 2F but possible to use on a F engine. This could be a 74 with different valve cover or a 2F. With the oil filter where it is it's not older then a 74 model.

John, the '81 and newer valve cover won't fit over the earlier rockers. That, the four bolt t-stat housing and the air cleaner lid all say post 1980 foreign market.

That said, the banjo bolt design on the clutch master went out in '75, which jives with Whitey's points on the body parts.
