Hi all,
Have just picked up a 76 FJ45 which isn't too far gone so planning to have it off the road about 12mts to restore and improve.

Want to change the alloy tray to a painted styleside tub. Was thinking something off a later model cruiser ute might do (7? Series).

Anyone tried this or found another good way to get hold of a tub?

Aqualu ( Aqualu Industries is full service welding and fabricating facility specializing in Land Cruiser, Jeeps and Samurai's) make aluminium replacements, but shipping would most likely be prohibitive to Tasmania.

I've seen a couple of 70 series tubs mounted to 40 series and it doesn't look too bad. The one below is on an 80 series frame, but you get the idea.

The 75 series bed is a good look, but requires bobbing the front by ~250mm.

Cheers for posting the link to my build @ozcrusier.

As above, I bought a rusty styleside tub and then had a local sheet metal shop match the profile, then made the rest to suit. Was stoked with how it turned out. With paint cost would be atleast $3-4k+ but.

Plenty more pics in my build thread but here is a few recent pics of the ute.

Super easy to Bob the 75 bed,

Hi just wondering if anyone can help me with my 1984 FJ45. Just trying to figure out how to mount my Toyota land cruiser 75 series tub tray on a FJ 45. if anyone has any tips that will be very helpful. thanks

Hi, I was looking to put the 75 series tub on my hj47

Could someone outline the process to "bobbing" the tub and maybe even post some pictures? Cheers!

Bump! Has anyone else done this and got any ideas they can share? I am thinking this is the route i will take with my 45 which I have just started building… I really love the style side but impossible to find so I reckon a 70 series adaptation is going to be the go… please post up if you have done this!

The key for me would be that the bed matches the body line of the cab. The first pic posted by @sneaky the bed doesn’t look “correct” to me. I like the body lines of the truck @Twisty posted. It looks factory.

@Rhino343 can you not find a LWB bed? I would have thought with all the 45’s you guys got they’d be easy to find?

Unfortunately in Australia everyone wants tray backs with removeable sides particularly on Landcruiser utes so you rarely style side tubs- most got scraped into metal recycling or rusted away years ago and got changed to trays.
I totally agree about the line of the cab- the 70 series tub sits too high but I have a plan for that. I am going to fabricate some matching undertub toolboxes that will meet up with the cab lower body line and also continue the line of the wheel arches and then slope up at the bag because I don’t like wide asses haha. I am doing some rendering so will post them when done.

I've bobbed a 79 series bed to fit on a 45 frame and did align the bed with the lines on the cab. it will look "off" if you don't align the bed, cab and headache rack all at once. And it might be better to go ahead and find a 45 headache rack as the lines are a little different.
start at post #204
if you are not versed in how to drill a spot weld or use a welder and a cutting wheel then you might want to pay a shop to do this work for you.

This is one Billy from McKinnons Cruisers knocked up for his shop truck. Its on an 80 series chassis but you get the idea.
He would probably sell you one in kit form if you were interested.
