I kept the double din Pioneer out of my Tacoma when I sold it and swapped it over to the 80. It made a big difference in the overall appearance of the inside of the 80. Also replaced all 4 door speakers with Pioneers that still fit behind the factory grills.
So I wanted to ditch the factory roof rack and address the inevitable rust problems they usually hide. Unfortunately the po must have hit something and busted it up pretty bad because when I start the removal process this is what I find.
And here's the wonderful assortment of screws they used to fasten it back to the roof.
Here's all the damage from the roof rack rubbing the paint and the carnage from idiots that try to fix things. I'm dropping the 80 week after next at the body shop to have all the holes welded up and the whole roof repainted.
The front seats were in remarkably good shape but the second row seats hadn't faired so well. So I picked up a set of SOR's seat covers to protect the fronts from @jfz80 who also had a set of second row seats with new leather that came in his 80 that he had never used. So after a few weeks of harassment he graciously sold them to me
Old seats
One side old, one side new
Both sides in. Really freshened up the whole truck
The old fake wood trim had started to delaminate so with the help of a hair dryer and some goo gone I pulled every bit of it out. I might replace it one day down the road but for now I'm going to leave it without it.
Picked up the full length ARB rack from @Keep yesterday and he helped big time with the install as well. I was pleasantly surprised at how little wind noise there is with it installed.
Manage to hit the river when time allows, the 80 handles canoe duty fairly well.
Lastly Beau enjoying a ride in it in a TEQ hat. Trying to raise me up right ya know
Makes me happy when my oldest asks to go outside and work on the Landcruisers. Didn't have much daylight left so he got to use his new headlamp to check the oil in the 80.
Well it's about update time!! As most of you have seen in the wrenching thread the head gasket on my 80 went out. All this started a couple months ago when I started noticing the sweet exhaust smell on cold morning warm ups. Then came the disappearing coolant from the reservoir. After that came the green snot under the oil fill cap so I immediately sent an oil sample off to Blackstone and got hit with the results.
After, talking to Jason and call to @beno the parts were ordered and on their way. My brother in law has large shop with a lift on some land he owns about 30 minutes from my house so we decided to dig into it there. @jfz80 in the 60 and me in the 80 on our way back to the shop tucked way back in the woods out in the boonies

So the hood comes off and we get to work. Good lord what a process just to get to the head, would not be a bad job at all if not for the harness having to be removed before the intake can. The first nights work ended exactly where I needed it to be. With the starter, alternator removed so I could send them to my cousin who owns a starter and alternator shop for refurbishment and upper intake removed so I could drop it off at the machine shop to be cleaned. If any of you still have a p0401 code on your 80 after replacing most EGR parts I can almost guarantee this port is your culprit.
