I have a 10/76 build-date FJ40. The previous owner installed a tranny and split transfer case from a FJ60. I’m looking to bring my FJ closer to original and gain back a parking brake. Anyone have a 4-speed tranny and transfer case that will fit they are willing to part with? I would also happily trade my existing tranny and split transfer case. I’m in San Diego. Thanks! Paul
4 speed tranny in Sacramento out of a 10/76 FJ40. Worked fine when pulled out 15 years ago! Stored inside my garage since. I gave away my 4 speed transfercase though. Sorry. I'd be happy to trade you if it would help. I'll be in LA over thanksgiving if you want to drive up and get it Wednesday night.
I'll go confirm its still on my shelving/parts pile
But my advice is to just buy the retrofit parking brake stuff from George and keep your existing set up.
You might want to call Mark at www.marksoffroad.net in Burbank. 818-953-9230 to see what he has.
He'll also be able to tell you if your driveshafts/flanges have been altered and what will work with them.
FWIW, The split-case is stronger, and the 60-series H42 is the same as the 40-series except for the top plate. But I get it if you're after originality.
Thank you everyone for the replies and help. I should probably clarify—I’m not overly concerned with the originality—but more with trying to figure out what the PO did. The stick shift as it sits is a good few inches back from where it was originally and the throw on the transfer case is super short and seems odd. If it could remedy this stuff, I’d be happy to keep the setup and find a parking brake fix. This is my first FJ40 and I don’t have enough experience to know what the PO did that caused everything to be moved around. Right now my buddy just helped me rebuild the engine and we were trying to put it back in and have been having a darn tough time and Were thinking maybe part of the problem was the tranny. Things just aren’t lining up and my buddy ended up taking off the drive shaft to see if he can get everything to fit. The engine looks great, but everything is in limbo! Any advice the way it should been installed would be much appreciated. Thanks! Paul

Well, you're in the Classifieds section, so your best bet would be to buy a silver star ($20) for unlimited pix posting and start a thread in the 40 section where lots of people can help, particularly if you post lots of pix so we can see what's going on...
