Fj40 transfer case linkage came off a 1976 $ 150 located in Santa Rosa

That's actually the 75-earlier T-case linkage.
Be aware that the shifter arm into the top of the t-case is also different between the 2 generations.
IOW, that linkage will not drop directly on to a 76-80 T-case.

From the SOR.com page, here's the early monkey motion shifter. Note the extra piece of bellcrank & complicated shift handle.

And then the 76-later linkage. Note they sell this as an update kit and include the later shift arm that goes in the t-case.

Thanks Jim. Yes this is what mine looks like except its missing the items I am pointing to. PO has some welded contraption..
The problem is it will not go into 4WLOW when I push it all the way to the right like you are suppose to.
I need to crawl under and get someone to try it. see why its not going.

The piece you've identified with the arrow on the right side of the pic is the critical part that changed between the 3speed and the early 4 speed, pre-4/75. It is what allows the range of motion required to go from hi to lo.

On the other piece, are you missing the whole arm, or just the puck that goes in the end of the arm?

in the second pic, that looks like the 3 speed part that goes to the nose cone. I thought 4 speeds had a longer plunger assembly.
SOR pic is wrong??

Yeah, I noticed that right away Paul. That there is what you call a blooper.

The hi lo rod that goes from the lever to the arm on the transfer case.
