FJ40/saginaw/other stuff

I'm working on my brother-in-law's '75 FJ40 (SBCJ40?)
It's got a small block, advance adapters bell housing, and (had) stock everything else.
I've swapped the front to "truck" front knuckles, birfields, brakes, etc.
Cut and turned the knuckles, SOA, put on hy-steer mini truck stuff, OME springs and bushings, and I'm in the process of installing saginaw steering parts (box, pump, etc).
I've ordered the tap to shorten the steering rod for the FJ's frame rail width/saginaw box setup.
But twice now I've ordered a pitman arm that was "supposed" to work with the saginaw box (4 bolt ....from a heep IIRC) and FJ80 tie rod end.
Both were for fj40 sized tie rod ends, and toyota boxes. GRRRRR!!!
So, I need a pitman arm for a saginaw box on the box end, and FJ80 tie rod on the other end, something around 6 inches (+or-) and little drop.
Can anyone point me to a supplier/vendor?
And another Q:
What's a good setup for rear anti-wrap after SOA? (ideas, vendors, etc)
Thanks in advance.
Rick.

for the anti wrap bar look into ruff stuff. they are really overbuilt and alot of people use them on here, so there are several builds done for reference.
Antiwrap/Traction Bars

and for the pitman arm i used one from a old YJ heep. fit my set up perfectly.

no, the heep pitman arm will need a GM TRE, what he means is that the pitman arm off of the YJ will be the correct drop and length to fit onto a LC. you will still need the 80 TRE for the toyota/knuckle end and then a GM TRE for the pitman arm end

clear as mud?

Then the 140 dollar 23mmX1.5 tap I just bought wouldn't do me any good and/or I'd have to buy another tap for the GM tie rod :bang:
I suppose if nothing else will work, that will be the route I take.
Is the chevy tie rod end smaller? could I ream out the tapered hole for the FJ80 tie rod? And where would I find the reamer?

Budbuilt.com will fab up the rod to your spec's, good price too.

I'd rather buy the tools to be able to do it myself, as I'm doing more and more of this kind of work lately.
I'd gladly pay someone to make the pitman arm for me though :D

I used a full size wagoneer pitman on mine. I used full size Chevy tie rod ends thru out. I also used the mini truck ends cuz the arms are beffier, but if youre going with high steer, then youre set. You can use what ever youd like to. The other guy is right, just buy your own taper reams to make it work. You can also use DOM tubing and drill and thread the draglink (arm between pitman arm and steering arm) and put chevy on one end, Toy on the other, I did all Chevy cuz theyre super cheap and its easy to carry spares that way.

iwant to do the same thing, but with the 80 ends :hillbilly:

The 80 ends are probably stronger, and theyre Toyota....I had 8 Chevy ends that I sort of inherited, thats why I used em!!

I have decided:
drum brake on the driveline sucks.
That is all.

Minor update if anyone cares:
I've gotten the 23x1.5 tap to shorten the mini truck steering link.
Ordered the reamer for the fj80 tie rod end from PSC, Thanks Lucky13
And I've ordered a 7 inch pitman arm from advance adapters that has a smaller hole that I can ream out to fit the 80 tie rod.
hopefully early next week I'll have the steering box connected to the steering link.
Still have to find a power steering pump and the bracketry to hold it to the engine, and then make or buy some p.s. hoses. I went to the local pull-a-part, and every single one of the older chevys was mising the pump and brackets.

ON a side note, I have an e-locker fzj80 axle front that I have to figure out how to stuff under my truck.....
Thanks for the help so far!

Marlin coulda saved you alot of reaming. Take it from experience, be patient with the reamer, only use it in a mill, lathe or big drill press.

Call Marlin next time.

I saw nothing about saginaw arms on Marlin's site...??

Recently Badass had a new Profits traction bar for sale. He bought it then found out it would not work on his 79 due to the interference with the stock gas tank location.

Look him up.

EDIT: sold it

Well the steering wheel is once again connected to the knuckles.
One step closer. (still gotta buy some new castle nuts though, don't know how I lost those....)
