i am new to this forum and to landcruisers...but i have read that the bandeirante uses a mercedes diesel engine. does this mean that the fj40 is also compatible with the mercedes diesel? i am in love with the fj40 but i want a diesel and the bj40 is so hard to find and so pricey. also, does anyone know if there are pop-top campers the fj40? what are the interior dimensions (from the back of the front seat to the rear door)? what is the to speed for the fj40 (depends on the engine or are they just not meant for speed)? is it unreasonable to assume with the right setup i could cruise at 80 mph? the ruggedness is the main appeal but i have to admit i love the styling almost as much. they look so classic. i do a national parks trip (minimum of 10,000 miles every summer) and man would i love to go in one of these beautiful machine converted to diesel and ran on svo/wvo. i can dream...can't i? thanks, everyone.

Just a note. Love the merc diesles, beautiful! Thought I would mention that while the BJ40's are expensive to a degree if you look at a Canadian Import, you could pick up a nice BJ42, there are a few going right now for between 5 and 10 000 CAN. Just a thought, if you love Diesels its the way to go.

what exactly are the differences between the fj40, bj40 and bj42? body differences or just engine differences or more? i have heard the toyota models made in south america suffer fron reliability issues...how do i know which models were made where? is the diesel in the bj40 any match in reliability and fuel economy for the benz diesels? thanks, everyone.

same Body, The BJ42 from the little I know...still playing with my new toy... has differences in the frame, upgrades I guess. But the big difference in the 42 has the legendary 3B diesel engine, an improved version of the 2B in the BJ40. I drove a rusted out merc for a few years and the diesel engine was very reliable, I would equate it to the 3B, very reliable and quite a legend. Check out the diesel forum for more info as I am still rookie to this.

Looking for Bandeirantes

Being new myself, I can't comment on the reliability or differences between the diesels. However, I found the thread by searching for Bandeirante, which is exactly what I'm doing! I want a cabine dupla Bandeirante. Anyone know where to get one besideds Brazil?
