We just built and installed this one for a customer yesterday:

Essentially, we built one of our standard 6" deep DiamondRax roof racks (60" wide by 66" long) without the rear section of the top rail.

We moved two of the crossbars to mate exactly to where the mounting rails for the RTT were located.

There's still enough room in front of the RTT for jerry cans or other storage.....

Just noticed this thread.

Greg (creator of DiamondRax) posted with the photos of my rig but I thought I would follow up and add some pics...

The build quality and design is really as top notch as it gets- the tent is distributed by Cascadia Vehicle Tents (made in the same factory that produces ARB's tents) and directly bolts on to Greg's rack without any modification to their design.... an astonishingly perfect combination.

just food for thought.

So this folds out the back?

I was just talking to Paul May at Equipt about combining the Diamond Rax 1/2 rack up front and a small EZ-Awn on the remaining section of the roof of my 40. The tent should only have 2 inches worth of overhang. That is my present plan anyway.:meh:

Yep- Could have gone off the side but chose to go off the back for several reasons:

- In choosing to orient the tent front to back, we saved a good amount of forward rack space- with the tent up there we still have room for as many as 6 jerry cans, or 3 and a hefty cooler.

- When open, the tent will be a much needed source of shade for our back of the truck kitchen and dining room setup...

- We retained three full clean 6" sides (front left and right) affording us the ability to add brackets for items like the hi-lift, shovel etc.

- We will have (construction in progress) a small metal dowel that runs around the bottom (top when tent is closed) edges of the tent, so that when it is deployed we can have a sliding shower curtain for to use for changing and- well, taking showers.

The smaller Eezi-Awn tents have a footprint of 48" x 48" closed. The one we mounted for Eli was 48" x 57" IIRC. The rack, itself, is 60" wide by 66" long (and can be a platform, 4" sides, 6" sides or a combo, like Eli's). Your Eezi-Awn, therefore, would fit very nicely....

Originally, we weren't going to do the side rails on the sides of the tent, but as Eli mentioned, it gave him points of attachment for accessories (plus, it adds an element of protection for the tent).

We could do a similar rack for you, Volcano, so you don't have two racks up there....one for the RTT and another for cargo. PM me if you'd like to talk details......

Just sent you an email CruiserStuff. Love the setup and looking to duplicate it on my 1977 FJ40 with a tent from Cascadia Vehicle Tents. I only see the Mt. Bachelor edition on their site and hope that it will fit. Look forward to adding my pics of my rack and RTT here in the next few weeks!! Hope to talk to you soon.

best......

Hey Ken - Just sent you a reply. The Mt. Bachelor is the edition we used on this particular setup. We're bending up a batch of racks right now, so let us know when you're ready to pull the trigger and we'll get it taken care of for you! Thanks

Confirmed CruiserStuff. Just sent payment via PayPal for the rack and the Triple leg mounts. Looking forward to seeing it on my truck with Bobby's tent!! Wahooo! I'll post pictures up here once I've got everything here and mounted. :bounce::bounce2::clap:

@90 Weight....thanks for the call and answering all my questions! Here's my '40 pre-restoration. Still have to tuck the exhaust up and do my suspension. I hope to have that done before the end of the month.

This sounds like a great idea. Other than safari baskets, what are you guys using to install the tents onto? Is their a retailer that sells the roof racks for a 40 series?

Thanks! I clicked on your banner after I wrote the post. Looks like you have some really great stuff.
